Default An Messerschmitt bf 109 G or K

Hi all.
this week i started the building of 1:5 scale messerschmitt Bf 109. I build by old plan, which serves me like outline tool, but i can say, that this is a semi - scratch build.

The plans are for G - 10 or early K's, so i did not decided yet, which will be my version.

I usually make it as follows when i'm in this situation.
I please the colleagues to post some colour schemes.. and i choose one of them. So i do it here too. So - look please into your files and look for an Gustav or Kurfürst, which is interesting. thank you in advance for your help.

here you will see the progress of my build. i plan my maid about spring of next year.

About the diametres..- about 80 inch span
engine - glow MVVS 1.60

And i have another wish - please sorry my english.. i try to be better...
regards
Tomas from Prague

So - i started my build with following acts:
i made the plywood bulkheads for the fuss ..
I use the handsaw,... so you can imagine how tired i was at the end of my mission..
But for sure - when i saw the products on the table... i was happy.

The main stringer was bought in the home store,...- only i have seen in this article the ideal spar for the fusselage - the seller thought,...that i will repair my roof..

my retracts - that was a present from my friend from austria.
(danke Gerhard!!!),
about the mechanism - this is a home - made retracting system with locks. I do not use the air retracts - i have seen what do it can, if you have a problem with a sleeving... i just don't trust in it.

yesterday i felt really sick - so i was a little lazy - i have just prepaired the gauges for the foam cores in the wings.

If someone wonders, what the material is used - it is easy.. the gauges are cut from the folder carton - easy to cut,.. easy to sand,... easy to burn it if it is not really OK

if you cut the foam by wire - you do not destroy it,..- i have to say - a really good idea, which saved me a lot of time and effort.. try it - my own patent - i found out when i was lazy once again i just wouldn't to cut if from aluminium or some other metal..

on the second pic you see the gauges cutted off - i made today in the morning.. (still feeling sick..., so i tried to make me a better mood...
Today it is all, hwat can i show you,... but of course stay tuned..- it will something happen... ... maybe....

Regards
tomas from Prague

P.S. - post some schemes please..
thanks

I like that you are doing it the old fashion way. Doing it all from scratch including the retracts. Wow very impressive. I will check my files for pics

thank you.. i hope, that here will not be people disappeared, that my build will not be a high - tech show..

P.S. - i hate the newest technologies - if the plane flew before 20 years with normal equipment,.. so why should i use something else?

There is another thread going about building from plans very simular to these (I am guessing from the shapes of your formers). Our plans are written in Deutsch, and come from someone in Spain. I am personally going to build the "E" model but look forward to your build also.

Here is a scheme for you;
Avia S-99 (Czech post- war variant of Bf 109G-10),
Czechoslovak Air Force Training Base, Ceske Budejovice Air Base 1948/49

Hi Tomas, I have a thread here on another 80" set of plans for a 109 G-10/K. Looks like your off to a good start. I can feel you pain on the cutting part. I just finished cutting two sets of parts for Ziroli's 101" B-25. I don't think I want to touch my saws for awhile, need to set my sights on building. Will check in on your post here from time to time. Good luck and hope to see a photo of it completed soon.
Chris.

Hi Scalecraft,..
i mean that it is a really interesting. I thought about it too to produce my 109 in a composite form,... but i mean the old balsa, ply, foam, abachi.. is a good choice to build it by the old way....

About midnight... the hour of ghosts... i became the finished cores..
I was soooo happy that i had to make a photo immediately. Of course..- there is a little problem - i cutted with the wire into the core a little,.. so i had to salvate it,.. (as i say - second service) but the result at the end is according to my opinion relativly good.. (it seems to be... at least..).
So - look at the fruit of my efforts

Thomas, I just read this thread. I have four or five books on the 109. when I get home tonight I will look through them for some pics for you. the books have dozens of fullcolor schemes so I should be able to find something.

Something else - if you are farely computer handy there are literally dozens of sites with pictures and historical data on the ME109. Just do a Yahoo or Google search for both ME109 and BF109 and you will get more stuff than you can read in a week.

Thomas,

here you go. If you see one you are interested in I'll see if I can get you better pic and info. the G-10 and K's are rare. Very few pictures in my books. Lots of E's F's and G-6's.

Hi Tomas,
Great project! [sm=thumbup.gif]. But I have a question... what weight do you expect your 109 to be when finished? I ask because at 80" span and with foam wings I wouldn't have thought the MVVS 1.6 (26cc) would have enough power.
Thanks!

Looks fantastic Tomas....excellent work on the formers and the cores....Hand cutting huh? Yeah, that IS a lot of work there. I buckle and use the Dremel scroll saw for that part.. Foam cores are the way to go IMHO on a plans built job. Makes things go a little quicker, and so far I've had real good results with foam cored wings.

Hey Mike, how would you go about doing foam core on the plans that we have? It calls for wing halves plugged into the fuse using wing tubes. Would you make two sections per side so you can put a rib at the end of the wing tube section?

Hi!
Brian Taylors recommends a 1.50 Fourstroke in his 83" Mk 8-9 Spitfire at 1/5scale .
My Marutaka DC-3 (span 2.11m, weight 3,6kg) flies very good on two OS FS .26 fourstrokes swinging 3-bladed 10x5 carbon fiber scale props at around 9000-9300rpm using 5% nitro and 15% all synthetic oil (Motul "Micro" ).So the Messerschmitt in 1/5 scale would fly just fine with a 26c engine and have a light wingloading which is essential for good flying characteristics.
My next project is the Brian Taylors MK 9 Spitfire and have it powered by a 20-26cc MVVS , probably watercoold (modified).

Thomas.

Both pictures are in Squadron/signal Publications "Zmesserschmitt BF109 In Action part 2". There is very little information with the photos. The K-4 is a IIIJG27 from late 1944. The below link is a source for the book.

You may appreciate the pics of my 100" Meister BF109E of I/JG27. It's powered by a Quadra 75.
