branded...
You've been posting pictures of your Corsair here and there on RCU. I personally like your style of weathering... clean but not polished. Nice.

RE: New Corsairs?
Juice, thanks....A little steel wool does wonders on latex.
shupack, I wish I had the forethought to take pictures of the wing attachment as I did it. Unfortunately, it's not easy to describe, and the attachment uses aluminum channel that may not be readily available to others....
Having said that, the concept is relatively easy. It's simply two aluminum "spars" that plug into two extruded aluminum channel. A few set screws keeps it all in place.
The extruded aluminum channel is bolted into the wheel well area. The spars are on the outer panels.
That's the best I can describe the setup in words.

RE: 3 piece
I should have used the term "blade" in my response. I guess that's the proer term to describe the two protruding aluminum spars used on the outer panel.
I'll try to do that when I have a chance.

Have you flown this plane yet?
Your wing setup looks good, but I'm a bit worried about the aluminium channels, they seem to be a bit short..? The wheel well is the weakest part of the whole wing, so one should be careful...
Just my thougths, if it holds, no worries

RE: Sanding a Corsair Wing
Might as well post some pictures of some of my old planes. First is my Royal Corsair built in 1985, radio went dead in 1996 and she kept on flying for a while.
Next is my Jemco Corsair, 1982 or so. Glassed and finished with Model Master paint. My first attempts at weathering. I eventually sold this plane and it hung from the ceiling of the Hobby Hive in Bellingham WA for many years.

Time to bring this post back to the top. Here is picture taken on an overcast, cool (55 deg. F) but calm November 1, 2003. Details on this Top Flight 1/8 scale (.60 size) Corsair can be found in earlier posts.
I am hoping to add 2 more completed/ ready to fly Corsairs to my fleet by spring: a Wing Mfg. (which will also be on display at the 2004 Toledo show) and a Jack Devine 1/7 scale/ 71" span, which is being scaled out.

RE: shoe shine
Gary,
Give it a minute (maybe longer if you're on dial-up?). I might be resizing your picture. Wait until you see the message "Image uploaded successfully".

RE: Show every one what your F4U Corsair looks like. Come see some nice pics of Corsairs.
Hi,
Here's my latest Corsair, a 40-sized 52" span, Oracovered ARF from Phoenix Models (made in Vietnam) completely sanded over & re-finished with TopFlight 'Lusterkote' and 'Tamiya' spray cans, drawn panel lines and simulated paint chips, weathered with artists' pastel chalks applied with a flat sponge brush, and sealed over with 'Lusterkote' matte varnish for fuel-proofing.
Flies practically out-of-the-box with an O.S.71 Surpass and a 13X6 prop with just a bit of tail-heaviness... shifting the battery under the tank solved that.
Flies and sounds scale-like at 1/3 throttle, albeit rather buffet-y in wind I guess due to the W-profile wing. Descends and lands on mains rather predictably & easily.
The only compromise is that I've got fixed gear as I fly off grass... I guess a rotating retract on a 40-size is a wee bit too much effort for me!
Overall, happy with this one!

Here are a couple shots of my Bird The plane is a Top Flight 86" giant Corsair. Robart retracts, Futaba9ZWCII radio, with full cockpit with sliding canopy, and pilot, all panel lines, gear doors, hatches, rivets and welds. 3.2 QuadraXL for power throwing a 20/12 prop. Model weighs 30 pounds. Base coat clear coat automotive paint. Model is patterned after the nicest Corsair in existence ( my opinion and those that judge at Sun N Fun and Oskosh). The plane is of the Black Sheep squadron, flown by Ken Walsh. This is a civilian owned plane now, hence no weathering.
