H9 81" P-47 as it was, then as it is now................
Flew it out of the box for a couple of years. Then stripped it, glassed it added panel lines and some other surface details, bigger main wheels and a retractable tail wheel.
For any Aussies out there, this model is now up for sale, I have a bigger one on the way.
Cheers.

Hi Richard,
I stripped the film off completely, then glassed it with 3/4 oz cloth and finishing resin.
Panel lines done with chart tape and primer, then removing the tape.
Access panels were masked off with vinyl masking, a couple of coats of primer, then screw heads pressed into the primer before it had completely hardened.
Paint is automotive acrylic which is not very fuel ressistant, but as long as you do not spill raw fuel on it and keep it clean lasts pretty well.
The whole process took as much time as finishing a new model but I think the result was worth it.
Cheers

RE: P-47 PICS
Hi Fast Richard: Sorry to break the news to you, but it isn't quite right yet! The squadron code letters are "Lima Mike" or LM. It looks like you need to reverse the two squadron code letters in front of the star and bar, and then you have it all right. Sorry for any confusion on that. You're almost there!

RE: P-47 PICS
Hi Fast Richard: If you look at the post above that shows Fred Christensen's Rozzie Geth II from the right side, you'll see what I mean. If you reverse the "ML" to "LM" on the right side of the fuse in front of the stars and bars, you've got it all right. The plane looks great, and this should be a minor change to make it perfect.

I'm sure you'll get it right this time! A lot of people probably wouldn't even know that the lettering is wrong, but with all that beautiful work you have into it already, I'm sure a little more won't be too hard. Besides, now you've learned something about how the markings were done in the ETO in WWII, and you won't make that mistake on any future planes you do, or you can help others who don't have the knowledge that you now have!
Please post pics after you finish it.
Hang in there!
