You know I am am pain in the as.... with those counter balances , its funny in the CMP-P40 post , FLD said the same thing lol 
Plane looks great , if you need gear covers there not exact but you can buy the gold editions for the P40 for about $8.00 .

Okay, here's another group of pics...I'm very close to finishing now.
Our club has a warbird meet on October 28th, so she'll be there!
These pics show the structuring for the wheel wells, The trace paper I used to insure the wood sheeting fits, and the cardboard cylinder as the inner walls of the wheel wells.
Overall- I can't say enough good things about the quality of this planes bones (there are a number of changes that BHM should make in regard to hiding the servo's in the winfs, retract loaction and tail counterbalances, but for the $$, I could have not built this thing to this level of quality...check out the pics!).
You can see the vertical stab counter-balance (just for you LDM) where it has been cut, the painting done to the color scheme to make it more accurate to the original aircraft (White & Blue stripes) The joined wings, the faux cockpit [note: I normall build 1/2 cockpits for my birds, but I'm tired and just want to fly this baby]
, so I printed out a frontal and plan view of a P-40 ((very simular to this plane)) and placed them in the cockpit, it's surprising how much depth one gets from those pics! I'm blown away by them. check out the control stick, it looks like it's in there. The pilot's armor plate and head-rest were made of balsa, the instrument panel and dash board are made of cardboard, and you can see the volt-watch in front of that.
I've re-painted the pilot and both inside and out of the canopy.
You can see the air tank fill indicator located on the cheap gas fill sticker (sticker came on the plane) behind the pilot's seat.
Also note the drilled out the machine guns on the cowl and put in my own.
Panel lines are now completed, and airbrushing will begin tonite after work if I have time. [8D]

I ordered mine through Hobby People..It arrived pretty fast, and except for a very few things :
landing gear machine gun blisters on the cowl, servo placement in the wings, counterbalances on the tail...I think it has turned out rather nicely and the quality is up there with hangar 9.
Even the stock pilot is pretty nice.

Okay, the parts came in for the landing gear, so I need to put on the faux struts, make the blisters for the LG covers as the stuck ones are too small (Actually, I've ordered the hangar 9 P-40 wing blisters, but they're back-ordered), so I'll probably just make some.[8D]
I'm a bit dissapointed in the wheel size though.[>:] I've used 3.25" wheels since they are the larget dia wheel that will fit into the existing wing bay without cutting up the spars...I was afraid that would weaken the wing too much, but as you can see, these new wheels are still far too small to look semi-scale. 4" would do the trick.
At this point, I just want to fly her, so it'll happen this weekend.
Check out that 3 blade prop on the g20ie, it looks great!!
Aside from the wheel size, I'm very happy with the aesthetics of this plane...hope you like her. [8D]

That stock landing gear setup gives a sort of a P-47 appearance: I'll have to install rotating retracts if I get one. Still a nice looking plane tho
Anyone have some accurate, ready to fly (minus fuel) weights yet? IF you post the weight of your's, PLEASE indicate which engine that you have installed, as well as rx battery and other pertinant weight related mods and/ or equipment used.

I've now flown the palne anout 12 times and with the gear up, she tracks very nicely.
Lot's of ohhh, and ahhhh's at the fiel;d as lost people don't know what it is.
I will give it a bit of weathering (airbrush, but not much). [8D]
Lot's of problems with my R615's thoiugh, they're either not fully retracting due to binding, or not entirely locking in the down position.
The engine is a G20, w/ a 4000mah 3.7 lipo, and it flies with that scale looking 3-blade 15x7 prop.
Love the plane, don't like the retracts.

Is it some sort of Gemotry problem or are the stock units @#$%^?
For the price I could live with having to upgrade to an aftermarket set.
I agree, many would think it's a P-47!

BTW, the plane flies wery nicely with the gear down as well...I guess I'm just saying that I think it looks better with the gear up. and of course the low fly-by turns all the heads.
Overall, it's a great flier both with and w/out flaps, and looks excellent in the air...Busted a prop on the last flight as the set screw on the LG torqued the wheel on TO, but the 3 blade prop protected the cowl, so there's no damage to the plane.
One note to watch. The wing/ airfoil on this plane is far more scale than your floater h9 planes, don't get me wrong, I love H9 planes, this airplane simply insn't a floater like that even though it's incredibly light weight.
When I first fly my planes, I always put them through a series of induced stalls, both power on and off; at a very safe altitude. The stalls on this plane are UGLY, and if not thoroughly broken a harsh and tip stall is emminently abrupt.
The stall must be properly broken with DN elevator, to recover, so I hope this happens for you with plenty of altitude.
For landing I have full flaps, and a steep glide angle to keep speed up with very little power (or more power with a not to steep approach), using throttle management all the way to the runway.
but even as little as 1/4-1/2 power, she flies incredibly well.
I'd highly recommend this plane, just use different landing gear. [8D]
In fact, I wounder how difficult it would be to get a set of .60 size VQ or H9 P-40 wings, recover them in siver and viola...in retrospect, I probably should have done that, but the BHM spit flaps look soo good.

sounds like a cool plane,
THe 615's can be made to work OK the locking problem is usually the screw on the shaft where the cylinder actuator rod attaches, If it loosens up the gear will not lock down. My current set had that problem. the screw there had worked out 1/8" so when down it didn't pull over center. check for that, and #2 the set screws are a bugger. I tightened mine as much as possible and used loctite. that minimizes the issues with them.

NP The best option is to check out the 95 degree .60 size rotators from www.sierragiant.com they're beautiful and bulletproof.

BTW,,, THE VQ COVERING is a tough vinyl that is great to scuff and prime/paint in a custom colorscheme!!!!!

fortunately their Giant scale stuff is top notch.
The 615's were really designed for the OLD .60 size models which were basically a slightly enlarged .40 model! LOL
