Hans where did you end up with your CG? Has your FW190 flown yet?

Its getting close guys!

Started the DLE30 today for the first time. Has a huge amount of power!!

Also checked the CG and at 140 its a bit nose heavy but still may be ideal fro a maiden. Might move the ignition pack into the fuse to see how it balances. Great news though, NO LEAD!!

Excellent. Leaving it a bit nose heavy for the maiden would be the thing to do for sure Royster. Good luck with it,and I'm sure you'll keep us updated.

Thanks

If pushed it I could finish it and fly it this Sunday but want to sort out a few things and tidy up inside the fuse, plus I need to cut a foam box to transport the fuse in to the field, but I am sure it will be ready for the next week end.

Will put some more fuel through the DLE30 during the week as well to make sure it runs well.

hi Royster,

how much did you have to cut the cowl for the DL 30?

Not too much but I wanted the head to stick out for cooling reasons. Just cut for the engine head and exhaust muffler/pipe. Can post another pic up if youre build one. I did dremmel out a bit more for the ignition lead but overall I am real happy on how neat it came out. I just hope the engine gets enough air. I,m not a die hard scale guy so as long as the plane flys well and looks good in the air I am happy. Might do some weathering later but the plane has to prove it self first!

Hi Royster

Set the CG on mine at 130mm which as I recall was where the instructions I got said to put it. See P13 of this thread for how I measured it.

The model seem to fly OK at this so I have left it there. I have another one (BU wing) and an Bf109 in boxes waiting to be put together. Took advantage of the high $AUD to get cockpit kits and Sierras for both.

Meantime the old one is still flying, though a couple of problems with the old spring air retracts mean its a bit battered.

Cheers

Terry

Royster, thanks for the info about the DL 30 and cowl. I went back through the threads again and saw the pics.

I do plan on building one. I love gassers, and the DL 30 or MLD 28 looks like the ticket

I also thought about electric after seeing the one on here. but I'll probably do the DLE. I love my DL 50.

thanks

Cheers Terry

I went through the thread and someone had the BU wings and said it flew great at 140mm and even considered 145, but it does balance well at around 130 nicely so may leave it where it is. At least I know its nose heavy (fingers crossed)

Think I will be more nervous flying this than my 3M Comp ARF Extra 260 and its worth 6 times the price

No probs If I could do it all over again I would save my dollars and buy the Aeroworks new P51 Mustang and a DA50. Something I love about DA engines, but who knows I may love this plane and engine combo when she takes to the air next week.

Still not 100% on the prop I am going to use (Mejzlik 18x11) The 11 pitch may be a bit too much for landing. I know the 18x8 is the most popular for the DLE30 but I need speed not 3D/aerobat pull from a prop. Problem is slowing down the sucker when its time to land.

I might pop a throttle mix in and knock down the idle just before touchdown and blip it now & then to kepp it from cutting out. Which is what I do with my 2.6m composite Extra330.

Cheers nice video~!

Is that with the built up wing or the composite?

Also 145mm from what to where? IS that measuring from the wing root, up against the fuse and straight back?

Simon what did yours weigh?

Yeah thats where mine is but not sure if I want to change it to 140mm. May be after the maiden after I test the CG in the air

Yeah the CG of is measured from the wing root up against the fuse, as thats what my instructions said, I used a great planes balancer to set it
Its the built up wing and tail and weighs in around 15 lbs

Built up tail? So the fuse is not composite?

Ah ok, now I get it.

Well maybe I should at least try to attain 140mm and go from there. iTs about 130 at the moment but haven't flown it yet.

One other question is what throw you are using on your flaps?

can't remember exact figures as plane is in the garage right now, but my memory seems to think it was about 20mm half flap and 50mm full flap, or somwhere around there?

will check at the weekend and let you know

Yeah if you go back through this thread there seems to be a difference. My manual says 100mm but someone else here got a amendment with their manual saying was now 130mm, but as you can see from Simons plane it fly fine at 145!!

So for maiden I may go for 130 but that may change if I can work out how to measure the MAC of a wing

When i got my model through from YT International, it came with a letter titled "fw-190 Amendment", it basically went on to explain some small things, but the main thing was "We would recommend a CG of 140-145mm",
So thats what i did, stuck it on my Great planes CG balancer at 145mm and balanced it perfect, adn she flies great
did you guy not get the same letter with your planes?

it says 140mm in the manual btw

Thanks again Simon [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

I didn't get that piece of paper in mine. Thanks god for forums!!

OK will balance mine to 140-145! I think that about puts it at the last intake on the fuse (or are they outlets)
