Jim,
When redoing the wing, bear in mind, there is no wing joiner between the center panel and the tip panels.[:@] They just butt together, and, are reinforced with glass tape. I did not know this when I redid mine, and sanded the reinforcing glass cloth too thin on one panel. Lucky for me it broke loose in the shop, and not in the air.[&:]

Thanks that is good to know. And yes, I am going to glass the wing also.

There is a rib ripped out in the middle of the wing also where one of the bolts goes. Another challenge. Going to continue to strip the covering off for now while think this through.

Model Airplane News ran an article several years ago on making repairs with expandable foam. I see no reason why it wouldn't work in your situation.

Should work fine. Just make sure you test the foam with whatever fiberglass system you plan to use. Some of the polyester resins and alot of the thinners will attack foam.

No problem with compatability. I am using water based Polycrylic. Looks like the foam idea will be worth a try. Got half the covering off the wing before stopping to watch the Cowboys stink it up today.[:@] Loosing to the Eagles!!! Ugh!!

Just don't mention your from Texas and drop the New off your address and you can pull for a real football team. Back to airplanes. Your right, WBP shouldn't mess with the foam. Is the foam a ??closed cell?? foam. Not sure if that is the right term but some have open pores. Just make sure you can sand it smooth. I would still make a small test piece first.

I dont know if the foam is open or closed. Never tried this before. I imagine though that it is fairly open pore or it wouldn't be expandable. Should still be able to fill it with light weight filler to get it smooth though. Will just have to do some experimenting. If it doesn't work, foam is pretty easy to rip back out.

They have football teams way up north!! Yeah I know but the Boys gave them a good game earlier this year. May be a rematch in the future.

I need a new canopy for my Midwest Texan!!!!! Where can I get one? I see a guy in Greece has one but Greece, thats on the other side of BFE. Any help guys would be great.

Nitro Planes has an 82" Texan, perhaps they can sell you a canopy. There is a Nitro factory support thread on a RCU Forum...

Finished sanding the fuse. First coat of Primer went on yesterday. Primer sure shows up any and all leftover imperfections. Put filler on imperfections. ie dents and dings. Now ready to wet sand the first coat of Primer off then start the detailing. Will have to wait until after Christmas.

I recieved one today and it looks like a good to very good fit. I have used canopy glue on mine for now and it looks OK but if it rolls again it will crumble,ya I know land it better, I fly off dirt and sometimes a hole jumps up now and again(ya right!)

I have found the canopy on their website. From the pictures I have seen, It does not look like it covers the rear opening on the Midwest Texan. Does yours? Also, can you take some pics of it.

Work has slowed to a crawl right now. Wife is facing gall bladder surgury soon.

Got a chance to finish sanding off the filler primer coat. Now to some detailing. Since this is a rebuild and the airplane is not "scale" I am going to just try some things out on it to give it a look of detailing. It wont be true to scale but more of a fun scale project that I can try some new things on. Well new to me anyway. So more like practice for later.

I am a big fan of Tom Pierce's models. His SBD and FW190are just awesome. I hope to build the SBD some day. It was his website that I have been using for reference on the techniques I am using. Such as the glass and poly process. Now I am going to borrow from Tom again and use primer to bring out the tail filets and the front hatches. I tape off the areas of the filets then build up 6 coats of primer around the tape. When the tape is lifted off it will leave a raised area. For the curved part of the tail fillet, I marked it off first with chartpak tape then used masking tape to go around it. In the process of painting on the 6 coats now. Here are some pics.

I am thinking of ordering a canopy from AK Models. They carry the CMP planes and parts also. After looking at some pics of the CMP canopy, I think I can make it work. I also need a cowling. How good is the CMP cowling?

Wife's surgery is on hold right now. Probably will happen in a couple of weeks. She is feeling better at the moment. But every meal is an adventure.

All the raised panels and fillets are done. Turned out really well I think. Next on to hatches. I'll make them out of aluminum duct tape. Same thing as Flitemetal I believe but availabe at Walmart.

I really like the way the fillet around the scoop came out.

The planes coming alone nicely,,,

I see from you pictures you are using the stock nyrod push rod set up for the elevator
The plane I had was crashed because the guy who built it didn't use the right rods when connecting the clevis to the nyrod, he only used a short piece of 2-56 all thread,
Under a load the plastic just bent because it wasn't supported. I'm not sure what the plans show, but make sure if you use the nyrod system, you use a thread rod that extends into the "inner" nyrod and into the housing a couple inches.

Thanks for the tip. All the pushrods were completely metal rod run inside the plastic tubes. I plan on reusing them.
