RE: New composite spitfire
t_burly,
I have worked 5 hours a day for 251 days on my 1/8 scale Corsair and if my calculation is correct that comes to 1,255 hrs. My 1/4 scale Corsair will probably be between 2-3 thousand hrs. My TF 1/8 scale is not just a TF Corsair anymore. I have many mod's on it that take a lot of time. I really think it should be left at that. As far as competeing I only go by what I've been told and thats it. When I do enter into competetion I guess I'll learn a lot. I wasn't kncking the composite kits but really don't appreciate your remarks. You are a moderator and I thought what you did by posting those remarks aimed at me were against the rules. Thats not being a very good role model for the rest of us. I will leave it at that.

RE: New composite spitfire
actually Barry, and Admin yes, just not this site[8D]
my point is, dont take anything away from what it takes these
guys (myself included) of what it takes to finish a composite kit.
there is much more to it than a week's worth of work
you can use up alot of time building a plane from a kit, and I know
you have had alot of hours on the corsair.
but you need to understand competition rules before judging what
is right and wrong between composite kits VS built up

RE: New composite spitfire
Hi guys!
Had planned to get the YT (KMP) Spit and equip it with an RCV120, a "scale" 4-blade from Soloprop and functional exhaust stack from Keleo... but seeing this fantastic composite Spit radically changed my mind. Will follow thread with great interest.
Keep up the good work and keep posting pictures!

RE: New composite spitfire
Hi Guys,
Today one of 2 Spitfires has had a maiden flight...
At this moment the roundels will be put on the Spitfires...
Be sure that you put all the weight to the front, because it's tailheavy like most of the Spitfires.
Engines used on these lady's are MVVS 45cc with smokepump.
Do they look nice....to my opinion they do.
Are they 100% scale like mentioned in the documentation...to my opinion they are not complete scale.
Some (alot) of parts where not in my kit, like the guns, intake under the Spitfire, I made 2 from my Spitfire molds, exhausts, hinges etc...
A lot of modification need to be done too, you sure need to change the wood where you put the engine on, because that is crap...
Positive is that is got good flight caracteristics because with bad CG it still went good, at this moment there is about 250 gr weight in the nose and probably it needs 250 - 400 gr more.
Cheers,
Tom

RE: New composite spitfire
Hi Flypilot,
The tv crew wanted the planes in a short period and for that reason I didn't had time to take pictures from the build.
I can't put a movie before the commercial is online...but when the commercial is on tv I will put it on my website.
This is a picture with weathering and rondels...
Cheers,
Tom

RE: New composite spitfire
Looks really nice Tom, Do you have any idea how much weight you have put in the nose of this plane to make it balance properly, including the engine, muffler and everthing.
I am considering doing mine as electric as the Saito probably is a bit too large....would like to ha some speakers in there as weel so it would be helpful if you could add everthing up so I know how much weight I can put in there...
Thanks...Looking forward to that comercial TV video

RE: New composite spitfire
Hi Fokke,
Thanks...
I started the spits on 22 dec 2007 and need to finish them on 18 jan 2008, lucky for them the weather was bad so we could work a little longuer on them.
Planes have MVVS45cc in it smokepump, 1 battery for ignition, 2 battery's for servo's and extra lead about 200gr noseweight.
Cheers,
Tom

RE: New composite spitfire
Well, I have now flown mine as an electric and it works great, these pictures is before I have added any paint..
If you want it scale you can drop the oilcoolers as they are way to large and the airscoop is of the short version...Also the elevators are Mk5 while the rest of the plane is Mk IX so some modifications is needed...also the rivets are raised rivets all over which is also wrong, other than that its a really nice flying plane, but I recommend adding flaps as this is a floater like the real spitty was..I know as I have a close friend who up until recently flew them for the old flying machine company residing at Duxford.
Retracts are Spring Air 403's which works great, but sierra's wold be nicer but not yet released..
Well, painting and detailng is next...

RE: New composite spitfire
Hi Flypilot,
I have just ordered the AD Spitfire and I too want it to be electric powered. Can you give me some details of what motor, esc and batteries you used. I have ordered an AXI 5345 F3a motor. How do you fit the batteries. Have you made a hatch somewhere?. Any pics would be very helpful. I have a Benedini sound system to be fitted also.
Regards

RE: New composite spitfire
Hi Tommy, well, I have now almost finished my spitfire and included are some pictures of it
equipment I'm using is:
Motor: Turnigy -> http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=3890
ESC 10s Hyperion ESC
BEC: HV UBEC
Batteries: 2x 5s 5000mah KongPower batteries hooked up in series.
Prop: Own made 4 blade 20x10 Apc prop.
Gear: Spring Air
Radio : 9303 2.4Ghz
A tip, try to make it as light as possible, espcially in the tail, that will make it easier to balance out on the proper CG.
She flies really nice but can be a bit hairy on the landing and takeoff...just like the real thing..
