Hi John,
Thanks for the compliments. I still need to finish my cockpit and paint the wheels, the tires and gear are from Yellow. The RTF dry weight came in at 32 lbs, I was really happy about that. I am so looking forward to flying it, that's kinda why I put off the cockpit til later.
Im curious, you removed 1/2 lb from the nose and put in the rear cockpit with a pilot. Where was your CG before that change and where is the CG now after the changes? Was the plane flying nose heavy and how does it fly now? I have my CG right at 13" from the trailing edge as the instruction suggest using a cantilever system (my first time using one and they are amazing). I'm interested in learning how the changes affected the planes flight.
Thanks, Mark

HI Mark - I need to recheck where the CG is now but the reason I removed the 1/2lb was because it was flying nose heavy. When I first completed it I know I set the CG at 13" or a little ahead to be safe, I can't remember. I will re-measure it this weekend and send you the new location. I would say were it is now is spot-on
That is great yours is at 32lbs. That's 4lbs lighter than mine and lighter than any other YA I've read about. My EME70 is plenty of power so your Evo should be a great match

Hi Mark - Sorry for the delay in getting my CG info to you. I never remeasured since moving and adding things so I did that today. I'm at 13.25" from the TE which is 1/4" forward of the plans recommend CG of 13". I thought it was at 13" for the maiden but must have been more forward. It flew too nose heavy; a lot of down elevator when inverted and feeling like I was running out of elevator control power just before landing touchdown. I'm gonna guess I was at 13.5" or more forward. I like the way it feels now at 13.25". I would say anywhere between 13 and 13.25 is a safe bet. I also have read many YA Texan build threads and everyone has success at the plans 13" setting
She's a beauty!....Looking forward to the maiden report
BTW, what type of finish did you use (covering, paint, markings, etc)?

Hi John,
Your information is timely as the maiden will be tomorrow. I have the CG set at 13" from TE. I did the test run tonight for ground control, its going to be a good day tomorrow. The paint I used was sprayed house latex, with Calli graphics. I clear coated with enamel clear for the glow fuel proofing. Ill post photos and a video of the maiden.

Hi Mark - You probably know this but full flaps on landing really help. I found no need for elevator mix w/flaps so just use them. Lastly, and you probably know this, don't try to 3-point land, it will bounce. Texan's like landing on mains and then get off the elevator immediately and let the tail settle. That's about it, it's a wonderfully plane and has no bad habits. Good luck!!

Hi John,
I thank you for the reminders, it never hurts to hear good advice often. I was wondering about how the flaps would affect the flight, good to know that the plane will not ballon up. The maiden flight was accomplished after 4 attempts; 1 then engine needed more tuning, 2 right wheel hub locked up and fixed, 3 left wheel hub locked up fixed, 4 the Texan flew. It was a good thing that I triple check the CG, the Evo 7-77 radial was just not enough power for this plane. The flight characteristics were great and very little trim needed. It all worked out, but I will be swapping engines and not sure what I will be doing with the radial. I wanted to post the video here so you could here the engine in flight, I'm not sure how to do that. Friends have photo's when I get them I'll post them.

I think I figured out how to post the video, to hear the sound click the play button at the top right.

Hi Mark - Always rewarding to see your hard work take flight successfully, congratulations!! Thanks for posting the video. Looks like it's just 7sec long and didn't have any sound. Can you post to YouTube? Would like to hear how that engine sounds. I'm really surprised the engine seems inadequate. What prop are you using and what rpm are you getting? My EME70 twin turns my Falcon 23x10 CF prop at 6500rpm, plenty of power for this airframe so I would think you should be close to that with a 77cc radial
Looks great on the fly by!

Hi John,
That link pulls up the video but you need to click the play button in the upper right conner and then you will get sound. The radial had a 24X10 falcon prop turning at 5300rpm static, the radial is rated at 4.8hp and your eme70 twin is 7.2hp with 1200 more rpm. 2 stroke gas will always develop more power for the cc. I think I am leaning toward the eme70 twin.

Hi Mark - I can see how 5300rpm might make it marginal....a shame to pull that beautiful radial though. sounds great too. If you do decide to switch over to gas, the EME70 is what's in mine and a great match to the plane. Keep me posted on what you decide. Happy to help with any EME or other questions you have

Hi Mark - Thanks for sharing and happy to hear you like the EME70. You did a fantastic job on yours, it's beautiful. I run a Falcon CF 23×10 prop which seems to be a great match. I just put Bowman rings in mine to see if they produce a little more power. Doesn't need it but thought I'd give them a try. I haven't run it yet so we'll see. Nice flying weather here in AZ now so probably next week I'll fly it.
Merry Christmas, John

Does anyone have a set of plans for the yellow aircraft AT-6 that you would sell or copy? I recently aqqirred one but it's missing the wings, and some other things I really like this bird and would like to see it in the air. Any help or I'm formation would be greatly appreciated.
