RE: Yak-3, scale 1:6, composite build
Thanks a lot Wayne! That is priceless info! I really fееl obligated to do good work on this bird!
No kidding Evil! Especially in the early WW2 birds where the metal was little and most was wood.
I also got today a set of first wing and fuse from Fokke for his small ME-109 in 1:10 scale. Here is the thread for her: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...ighlight=fokke

I think thats why I like the Russian planes so much. For so much of the war Russia was so behind in technology to the Germans, the rest of the Allies and just about everyone else, yet they made do. They used what they had and got better. The Mig-3, the Yak-3, the LaGG-3 (ok maybe not the LaGG *grin*), the T-34 and on and on. All considered crude, poorly made, lacking technology, yet the Russians made them count.
Its a wee little Bf 109! Nice!

Thanks! There is lots more to be done, but I keep moving forward.
Wayne, can you get some pics form the tail sections please? That part is usually very difficult to find in pictures from the past.

Very nice pictures. I'd love to buy the Rudder from some of the WW2 warbirds to be able to hang on my office wall. That would be quite neat.

Here is a good source for parts like that. http://www.warbird-parts.com/

It isn't a Yak-3. But, it is a good video of a full size Yak-11.

Initially I was thinking that will be good idea to put it on, but now I'm not so sure. What you think guys? May be it is not necessary? More I think about it, more convinced I became that better skip this offset...

RE: Yak-3, scale 1:6, composite build
Warbird51, I need to check my books, I'm not sure if the Yak-3 had an asymetrical stab or the offset in the positioning of the fin itself. It LOOKS like the right side of the fin was slight more "airfoiled" than the left, but I don't want to speak too much until I have my facts in front of me.
Of course I could be just a dummy and keep confusing the fin of the Yak-3 with that of the MiG-3

RE: Yak-3, scale 1:6, composite build
Since the Klimov engine used in the Yak-3 rotated clockwise, the fin is offset 1/2 degree to the right (viewed from the back) To my knowlege, none of the flying Yak's have had their fin offset changed since the American engines rotated counter-clockwise. The way the fin mounts would require major changes in the structure to do that. 1/2 of a degree is such a small offset and the fin is somewhat small, so the offset effect is very minimal at best. So nobody bothers with changing it. The vertical fin airfoil is symetrical.

May be is better to skip this offset completely. I'm not sure in wich direction prop will bi spinning, so just 0 degree will be best bet after all. I may get myself in making scale prop as well, but if I get too tired, it's possible just to drop some 3 blade in the front.

Yes, I know that, but I'm going with brushless and at least in theory can rotate in any direction. For IC will be standard direction. In any case for electro will be possible to try scale prop.
