more info
Dan, I must be braindead. I found some color pictures of a 109 G cockpit. No color numbers are given, but, the color sure looks black gray to me. The book is, German Aircraft Interiors 1935-1945 by Kenneth A. Merrick. Monogram Aviation Publications. PO Box223 Dept INT-1 Tel 508-347-5574. If I was better at this computer stuff, I'd post the pictures.

Tom
Thanks much. I have a excellent reference guide for the exteriors of all the warbirds but they never show any detail of the interiors. They do show a top view and the interior appears to be like you say.

book
Dan, Get the book, if you can. It's full of pictures and has instrument panel layouts. The squadro signal books have more info, but I only have them for the Fw 190's. They should have one on the BF 109.

WOW
Yeh the 109 is my favorite bird of all time! I have/had/will have many more. Meister's are the best and have long been my favorite warbirds, if for no other reason than the size and you can keep them simple or trick them out, and they fly great....Dave Platt's 109 is smaller and excellent as well...but for the ultimate 109 I reckon that Pat McCurry's is at the head of the class by far...and Ray Harris of Air Ray Inc. is just finishing up my PCM 109...can't wait to get it into my sweaty little hands!!! You can see the progress on his site
http://www.airrayinc.com/a.r.i._in_progress_i.htm
Ray is doing a super job on this project so please check it out.
I'm in the process of repainting one right now...I bought it from Lenny Smith about a year ago...Lenny did a nice job...however, time to repaint as theres a bit too much hanger rash on her. I also have one I started last winter and had to put on hold. Probably my favorite was a beautiful rendition of Black 6 built by Fred Menna of N. Scituate R.I. Fred is a true craftsman and a good friend. Unfortunately I sold her when I transplanted myself to Australia for a while. Hmmm...if anyone know's if she's still around please let me know ... thanks!
Anyway, thanks to whoever it was that found this fantastic 109 site...I think I'm gonna go there again now and explore.
Happy flying,
Rob Bailey / Pickupsticks

Rob, I spent 2 hours cruising that site one night!
I was exhausted when I was done
Props to Steve for the Site.
Yes I have seen Ray's site, and that PCM 109 is sweet.
I had forgot that he was building it for you. You'll
have an excelant bird when Ray's done with her.

cockpit colors
I have seen pics which show a black grey on the upper half and a sky blue color on the floor area. I have also seen a sort of grey green looking color on the floor too but these may be just restoration color and not actual color. but i have seen a lot of pics with the sky blue floors

I believe the most common color stated for early Bf-109 interior area's is RLM-02 which is a grey color. Later mk's are stated as being RLM-66, a darker grey. For those not aware, the "RLM" paint codes are used similar to the current US use of F.S. # (Fedral Standard) codes for paint colors. If you can find ref. to RLM color codes, test the RLM-02 look against what your photo ref. shows.
Check the link for some ref. to RLM codes and area's of use.

most German cockpits were painted with RLM 66 which is a dark grey--sometimes the seat and sides of the cockpit were RLM 02 which is a light grey green color--RLM 02 was also used for topside camo[in combo with RLM 70-black green] and mottling--experts have not yet agreed but RLM 02 and 63 were probably the same color--with RLM 02 being the earlier designation--if you look at a picture and see a light grey-green color on any of the bits and pieces its RLM 02/63

Cockpit Color
Hey guys,
I have found a color that can be found at just about any hobby store that is as good as it gets for painting a German Fighter
cockpit from WWII including the 109. I use Testors "Panzer Grey" number 1950. This is almost a perfect match to a chip found in the Monogram Painting Guide For German Aircraft 1940 - 1945. Unfortunately this book is no longer published so if you can find one it is invaluble for modelers who build Germans aircraft models.
Here is a shot of my 109 cockpit which was first painted overall in the 1950 and then final colors were added.

109 Cockpits
Pat, Great pic of your 109 cockpit...thanks! Hmmm...could you post a few more of different angles? Please! My PCM 109 is just about ready to fly to NJ. AirRay is just about finished with the construction...soon I get to have some fun with the painting and detailing! I am so psyched about this airplane, it is definitely the ultimate 109 model available...without question! I hope to have her ready for Warbirds Over Delaware. Well, I know she won't be finished by then, but she should have a basic 74/75/76 scheme...the detailing/weathering will be a gradual process I think. As will the cockpit, which I hope to fully detail as well from scratch.

BF109 Cockpit Color
Rob, Bob and others,
Thanks for the nice comments, I know Ray will do you right, he is a great guy. I can't wait to see that model as I am sure you will be proud - Good Luck. If you need anything for your cockpit, I can help as I have items just for this model. I will be leaving tommorow for a week and will post some more cockpit pics when I return. Man I am so glad to see so many 109 lovers. I still get excited when I see a 109 pic and think I want to build another.
Talk to you guys later.

Bob, 2 1/2 months isn't all that long of a time, when you consider work, family, flying...when the weather gets good I don't want to sit in the shop quite as much as I do in December! Pat's 109 is an awesome kit, and Ray is doing an outstanding building job for me...I just hope that I do them both justice with the finishing of it!
I will bring the 109 to Delaware regardless of what state of completion she is in...I reckon even in primer Pat and Ray's efforts will draw heaps of attention and deservedly so.
I've been following Evans progress too, he's doing a super job and I am envious...I wish I had the time and the skill to build mine by myself. I don't have much experience at all with glass...I've always been a balsa and ply guy when it comes to building...a habit which I'm starting to break away from though.
If anyone wants to check out Ray's progress with my 109 check out his site at: http://www.airrayinc.com/a.r.i._in_progress_i.htm
And...I have to agree with TomCrump, I too am enjoying this thread lot's !

109
I cant wait to get mine going I am going to have to wait a few though as Roy Vaillencourt is going to do one supposedly after top gun and his firefly plans are finalized. I bet I have gone through every set of 109 plans out there and have yet to find a decent set that I can work with for enlargement. Pats is a nice kit I have seen 2 of them the problem is they are a little hard to enlarge glass fuses :0)
