Default Need Don Smith P-61 Black Widow info.

Has anyone built a P-61 Black Widow from Don Smiths Plans. I like the size of his,(99", 1/8th scale) & am considering this as a future project. What motors were used, and which retracts did you use. What was the weight, and how did if build, & fly.

I am also interested in Don's version of this great aircraft. I just picked up a cut kit with accessories on RC Universe for the Ziroli version, but I agree with you that Don's is a nice size. The only one that I have seen mentioned in the magazines, is the one that Charlie Chambers competed at Top Gun with a few years ago. If I recall he had two Moki 1.2's in it. I don't know who's retracts he used.

I would be curious to see if you find out about any others that have been built from Don's plans.

I am building one of his Hellcats by the way. It's a nice build but definitely different than building from a set of Ziroli or Vaillancourt plans.

Actually, the late Charlie Chambers used two Webra 1.2 motors and by all reports, flew the plane very fast. I have the Don Smith P-61 up in the attic...complete with canopies, and cowls...after considerable thought, I am going to be building it for electric motors since there are no reliable gas or 4 strokers that can be hidden in the cowls (7inches). Charlie's flew fine on the Webras but I will never again put two stroke motors in a twin.......with electrics, the plane can be built considerably lighter and the electric motors have evolved to the point that they are plenty powerful....should be a fun project
