Own NIB Byron P-40, but rather have American Eagle I think????
I baught a Byron P-40 and it is still brand new. I have a sachs 4.2 that is brand new, but would rather have a larger P-40. Does anyone know anything about the American Eagle P-40? The price is only $450.00. I know it is fiberglass fues, foamy wings, etc, but I wanted to know how close it is on the scale side. I would like that, or a Ziroli one, but don't have time to build an all wood plane right now. What do you all think?
Thanks,
PJ

Hi PJ, Ziroli offers a complete fiberglass kit (Fuse, cowl, canopy, plans etc..) for $315 but you would have to pick up a wing kit which will work out to be the same price as American Eagle.
I had an American Eagle Spitfire the scale lines were OK but there was a lot of guess work with the wings due to a lack of formal plans.
I would go with Nick's offering, proven design with excellent support and plans.

P40
This is a shot of an American Eagle P40 I did a while back. It is about 100in. with a Q75 and flies very well and is still flying today. We had a local old time sign painter put the shark mouth on.

I really appreciate the help. It's funny, I only have about 14 giant scale WWII planes and I am worring about this. Its still number 4 from being built, but I saw some Ziroli ones flying and well, what can I say. I didn't know Ziroli had a glass fues. I don't mind building up wings.

No Offense but IMHO the Ziroli and Byron P-40's look much more accurate than the American Eagle. if you compare them up you'll see what I mean. The AE is just too off in its outlines.
Just my $.02

Thanks for the link, but that was a corsair fues. I'm sure Ziroli's P-40 is the same quality. I've been told the Sachs 4.2 will fit in the Byron, but I don't need a rocket. I'll buy a turbine for that. I'm not sure if I'm going to get rid of the Byron P-40 or the Sachs 4.2. Anyone flown the Byron with ooh lest say a G-62 ish?

You should go with the Ziroli and sell that boat anchor Byron real cheap just to be rid of it. You could probably get a couple hundred bucks for it, I might be able to take it off your hands.
Seriosly though if you want a true scale airplane go with the Ziroli. If you just want a good flyer that looks scale to almost anyone go with your Byron. Don

Just my .02 cents, when it comes to P-40's bigger is better. I had the Byron P-40 and, though it is a nice flyer, ground handling on pavement is a nighmare and it is very prone to tip stall in flight. The Ziroli seems to be much more user friendly from what I have heard. Don't get me wrong, the Byron is very flyable but you will want to be much more mindful of its quirks while doing so.
