Dress up those plot busts
I was working on the bust today for a 40 size BF109 and had an idea for the life jacket that I thought I would share as I have never seen this done or mentioned. The 109 is to small for a full size pilot so I decided to use a small williams bros. bust. I made the life vest out of cardboard, cotton balls, and monokote. I cut the template for the vest out of cardboard with an elongated hole on the upper center to go over the bust. I cut out two pieces of yellow monokote approximately 1/4" bigger the the cardboard. I sandwiched the cardboard in between the two sheets of mkote. Make sure the tacky sides are facing each other and seal all the edges but the bottom. Seal the hole for the head as well. With just the bottom edge open, take some cotton balls and tear them to thin them out. Gently stuff the cotton into the bottom edge filling the vest. when the vest is full to the desired capacity, stuff the cotton in and seal the bottom edge. Now trim back the edges and cutout the hole for the bust and slip it over the pilots head. Thats it, your done. only takes about 30 mins or less and adds a lot of depth to an otherwise boring bust.
Heres a couple of pics of the finished product, judge for yourself...
