Fabric Covered Flying Surfaces
I hope some one can answer this for me. When WW2 aircraft were delivered in natural metal, as quite a few were from late 43 onward, how were the fabric covered control surfaces finished. My guess was silver or aluminum dope or something like it. On models I would guess that after sealing maybe Rustoleum silver or aluminum spray paint???
Thanks guys

Model Master paint is not fuel proof. It may be resistant to gasoline residue but not glo fuel.
It must be clear coated and the best I have used is LustraKote. And I thought that Rustoleum paint was glo fuel proof...Some polyurethane paints are resistant to glo fuel...

Used to hang around Dope & Fabric shop in AF when bumming dope & pinked fabric for U/C models. Watched the women recover moveable surfaces on C-124 's . Really big project! The aluminum finish they used was a powder mixed with clear dope. Used to buy a aluminum paste at a auto-body supply store, mixed with a little thinner & then dope added. Worked good. MAX H.
