I ran into a problem with the Pica Corsair. While sheeting the bottom of the fuse I noticed the tail wheel arm was rubbing against the bottom sheeting. I'm debating on cutting a hole in the sheeting or since I don't have it connected to the servo just work it back and forth until it is free. Did anyone else have this problem and what was your solution.
Thanks

Had the same problem, did not know it until sheeting. Did the same thing, shortened the arm and cut out a relief hole.
Also do not like the slop the cheap set screw/plastic control arm gives for the rudder. Stupid me, should of not used it :stupid: Mine stripped after I had the thing assembled and was testing the servo. I ended up cutting a whole where it was located and cut the plastic arm off with the dremmel and taking the ol hobby welder and welded a metal homemade arm to the control rod. This was easier than disassembling the whole tail section.
Another thing I changed was sheeting the "bend" section of the wing. I put rib doublers at ribs 3 and 5 and split by sheet section into three individual sheets. The section over the "bend" can now be sheeted with the grain making it easier to conform to both the longitudinal and latitudinal bends and give it a more scale appearance.
Other than these little issue, this kit seemed to just "snap" together.

I am looking at the Pica Corsair. Does it come with the provision for flaps, or must they be scratch built?
Size-wise, how does it compare to the Top-Flite kit?
Finally, how well does it fly?

I've built mine over the past three weeks and am to the point of applying the covering (I lost my job so I've had plenty of time!). So far I must say that I've had none of the problems mentioned above. The center section does not have the scale curvature normally associated with the Corsair wing. Rather it's bent in a very sharp, "unscale" manner. The resulting sheeting is actually quite easy, at least it was for me. The kit comes with flaps, although they are far from scale, but they are fairly easy to set up. I can post pictures tomorrow if that interests anyone.

For ease of building, this plane is a great starter kit. For scale, nope. The wing is not close to scale, the vertical stab is parallel to the rudder the entire length of the stab, there are no oil coolers in the wing (I made them anyway), and the fuselage goes to a point at the end of the tail.
The flaps are not to scale, but are very easy to install and set-up. They come pre-cut and just need the leading edge sanded.
I'm ready to install and test the ailerons and then cover mine. Hope to fly it this Fall.
This is a "fun" funscale kit.

First flight may be tomorrow if all goes well. Not sure of the finished weight yet, I still have to balance it. All in all, a fun build. Great plane (I hope) to sharpen the "warbird" skills with.
Enjoy!

Corsair balance and weight
Has anyone flown their plane yet? I'm curious as to what your all up weight turned out to be. Also, did you have to add any weight to balance the plane. I am loathe to add any unnecesary weight and I'm afraid with this plane I may have to. Last inquiry; did you balance at the recommended point or have you moved the balance point at all.
Thanks!

Mark,
Nice plane, was it covered or painted?
What engine are you using?
Do you have retracts? What kind? What was your final weight?
I'm covering mine with the Monokote flat dark blue over flat gull gray over white, it seems pretty good, just have the tail feathers covered so far.
I'm also running a Magnum .75 with a pitts muffler and although I have them, decided against the retracts.
Good looking plane, good luck on the test flight.

Thanks, its covered in dark blue Coverall and painted with Midnite Blue Perfect paint. With the blue covering I didn't have to spray too much on. I clear coated the entire thing after applying the decals. I painted it mainly because I couldn't get a good match with the cowl.
I have an OS 61 SF in it right now but may put a little more oomph if I need more nose weight after moving stuff around.
The retracts are Century Jet rotaters (with the spring). I had originally bought them for the TF Corsair that I've yet to build. I'm going to put the Sierra Precision gear in that one.
As for final weight, I dunno yet. I don't have a scale, my wife says they all lie and gets rid of them!

Mark,
Wonder if anyone will try to put the recommended .46 on this plane.
That .61SF should carry your plane well. This plane builds much, much lighter than the Top Flight and Royal kits.

No final weight yet. I'm wondering if anyone has balanced and flown their plane at the suggested balance point? The manual calls for the balance to be 3 1/2" from the leading edge at the root. This is a full 3/4" farther forward than the Top Flite. They don't specify whether the gear is up or down but I found that if I balance it with the gear up it balances at the TF point (approximately). Put the gear down and it balances at the suggested spot. Weird huh? Any suggestions? I've emailed Pica but have not heard back from them.
Right now I have 11oz of lead and a Heavy Hub to balance it!
