Default It's not from Daves Custom Models

I just compared your pics, to pics of my DCM fuse before I started on it. My DCM fuse is one piece and the area around the exhaust stacks is smooth on mine. I remember having trouble figuring out exactly how big and where to locate my exhaust stacks. Your fuse has a recess where the cowl mounts and mine does not. Mine didn't come with a canopy. The DCM has the window frames molded in the fuse and you form your windows with a heat gun on the fuse, before you cut out the fiberglass.

I don't think my DCM kit came with a set of full size plans.

It does sound like they are similar in size (1/5 scale). There is an outfit in Louisiana that sells a bigger one (1/4 scale). I got a canopy from them and I'm cutting the individual panes out of it to replace my damaged ones.

There is a picture of mine in my gallery

I can't help except to say that I'm pretty sure the Consolidated kit was bigger than 1/5 scale. Looks nice, hope you find what you need.

Default P-39 kits

I think the Consolidated kit was 1/4 scale. Anyone know anything about the Jemco Kit?

GRBaker:

Thanks for your input. Nice pics in the gallery. Are you using 3 bladed APC props and did spring air also do your struts? I have never seen the Jemco P39. I am actually trying to collect all the Jemco kits. I have the P47 Raizor back and the Hellcat that I am going to mold one of these days and I have my eyes on a Jemco Zero. I actually in the past have came across a lot of Jemco kits and passed them by. Now that I want them I can't find them, go figure!

Chad:

I wish I could of met you down at Chino last weekend. You don't even have to say I know that it was great! I caught the show last year, it was outstanding. It was so great I took my dad for father's day and he got in free! I am hoping that someone out there can identify my P39 kit. Anyway here is a pic. from Chino last year.

Default DCM P-39

scottdog

Yes I flew with the APC prop in the picture. 21 - 10.

The struts and modified Spring Air retracts came from Lite-Flyte Products in West Chester, Ohio. I don't know if they are still around or not. The only thing I don't like about the Spring Airs is that when I do a gear check pass before landing, the nose gear is not locked. You can see the wind blowing it back. It doesn't lock until you get it pretty slow. I even disassenbled the retract cylinder and added a stiffer spring.

Good luck on your search.

I am building a P-39 that is almost identical to yours. the wing core measurements are the same as yours. The fuse looks exactly like yours with the moulded canopy frame and indentations for the exhaust. The only differance is mine does not have a seperate tail piece. My fuse is 67" long from firewall to rail post. The wing span will be 96" which is just abour 1/4 scale.
I was told this was a Bert Baker kit/design, but I am not so sure. I think it may be the Consolidated kit. There is no mention of designer or mfg, on the plans. No instructions, but a few notes on the plans, and thats it.
I have a real nice set of retracts that I am putting in it also. They are custom built, and I dont know who built them either. I guess it just some sort of "mystery ship".

Here's some pics og mine so far:

TLH101:

Man am I glad to meet you. My fuselage is 67 inches. We have the same plane. Thank God for RCU! If you don't mind I will pay for a copy of your plans, as well as shipping. I talked to another guy and he says it seems like our kit is the Burt Baker kit. The consolodated is supposed to be bigger. Also, I am very good at molding, maybe we can work out a deal so that I can make a mold off your cowl, if I cannot locate one. That would really help me alot. Can you post some close-up pictures of your vacuum formed parts? Thanks again for your response!

Default RE: Need Help Identifying And Finding Parts For This P39 Kit

scottdog,

what you have is a Burt Barker designed P-39. It was kitted by Consolidated. They offered it in two verison at one time or another. The two piece fuse that you have and a one piece. Also, there were a set of scale tricycle gear offered along a with a set made by robart. The Robart were not quite a scale as the other but they work. I had both. I ended up selling the one piece and scale gear but still have the other in ket form. I did regret selling the other one later. The instruction sheets do say Consolidated. Though my set of plans are yellowing and become quite brittle. I hve been looking for a set in better shape. The sad part is that Burt sold all of his plans to Yellow Aircraft and they are only kitting about four of them,P47/Spitfire/zero and P-38, and will not offer even just copies of the other great designs that he had, like the the P-39. I hope this helps.

Don't believe the Yellow Spitfire was a Bert Baker design, FYI.

TLH101 ,

Terry,

You by chance get the P-39 from a guy in the Houston area? I trade a kit similar to that one for stratched built B24. I have two kits, one with the one piece fuse and the other with the two piece fuse.
