Default MIG-3 1/5 full composite

Hi guys
I whant to present you my second projekt Mig-3 .
This is Russian fighter from 1940 ,The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3 (Russian: Микоян и Гуревич МиГ-3) was a Soviet fighter aircraft of World War II. It was a development of the MiG-1 by the OKO (opytno-konstrooktorskiy otdel - Experimental Design Department) of zavod (factory) No.1 to fix the issues that had been encountered seen over its development and deployment cycle.

I am not ready yet with 109 but I'll finish her soon and I what start build Mig 3 parallel with her ....
The method will be same like on BF ,with all parts ,rivets and moulds for composite fuse and wing ,the diferent will be velocity of building ,I hope
So ,the airplane in 1/5 scale is 2040 mm or 80.3" wingspan for 40-60cc gas engine .
Here I will post some pictures of my work ,I hope will be interesting my work

Fokke,

As you know, I'm a big fan of the MiG-3, having three different scale MiG-3 RC models, including the big 1/4 one from Romain Research.

If you need ANY information (and I have a lot of it on the MiG-3), please let me know.

And now for the questions... what version of the MiG-3? The early version without wing slats? Or the later "long nose" versions with the wing slats and upgraded weapons?

With the 80" Wingspan, I've powered my MiG-3 that size with a Moki 1.8 engine (30cc), a 40cc-60cc is going to be a lot of power and not so easy to stick in the nose. On my ImpScale MiG-3, the Moki with a wrap around muffler barely fit into the nose (its all built up nose on the 1/5th scale).

Oh, I forgot to mention, I managed to get a copy of Истребитель МиГ-3 [Текст] : монография / А. Н. Медведь, Д. Б. Хазанов, М. А.

I should have it in a couple of days Rumen. Its supposed to be the best book on the MiG-3 around.

Rumen,

The 1/5th MiG-3 is from ImpScale (http://www.impscale.com/html/mig_3.html). This is the one that I helped redesign into a much more scale bird. I don't have much of it done at this time, just the basic framup of the wings. I have to finish my Fokker before I do anything else with it.

The larger MiG-3 is from Romain Research's plans, they show up on Ebay occasionally. I have not really had a time to check these plans to see how scale they are.

I found Истребитель МиГ-3 in Finland of all places. I've seen them pop up occasionally in some of the online Rare Book stores, the one I picked up was from abebooks.com. THey have another one but it is VERY overpriced at over 100 US dollars.

Another good book is this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/MIKOYAN-GUREVICH...3286.m20.l1116

This book is written by Massimo Tessitori (the fellow that keeps the VSS REsearch web page with all the good info about the MiG-3 and other Russian fighters online here: http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/)

THe lines on that composite MiG-3 actually look decent. The wing isn't quite right, but its not bad... I wish we could find out where it was built and by whom!

Yes, this is the book. This is considered the best book on the MiG-3 by most historians.

I have all the same books you do, only most of mine are in English. There is one other book that has quite a bit of MiG-3's in it called "The Victims of Barbarossa" or something like that. Its by the same folks that do the Yellow Mushroom book on the MiG-1/MiG-3.

Well, just keep your eyes open. You never know what may pop-up at some garage sale or yard sale...

Now if we can get lz-23 going on the Yak-3 again, I'll be a happy camper. We're just about ready to run the engine in the "giant Scale' Yak-3. All my efforts now is to get the Wildcat ready For the Reno Air Races next month.

I'm really sorry about this delay. At the moment I'm packing all of our stuff - we are moving faraway due to health problems, so will be at least another two months before i can continue on my models again. But definitely the YAK project going to be on its feet shortly after that. The other project - KB-3 is close to finishing, but will have to be continued by my friend Ivan.
Will keep my finger crossed for Wildcat to be ready on time! Will be great if you can post some pics of her after she is ready.

That MiG-3 is kinda weird. There are things in it that are just confusing. It looks like a mix of a MiG-1, early MiG-3 and late MiG-3.

The front canopy is wrong. The front canopy of the MiG-3 was a solid one piece unit. The lines people think are canopy frame are actually the glue lines in the canopy attaching the side pieces to the front.
Also the pitot tube is in the wrong place, that is the location of the pitot tube if it was a later model MiG-3, that would have had the wing slats.

In fact taking a closer look at the 3D work, that may actually be a MiG-1 (look at the 7 cooling slots near the wing on the engine, there are only 6 on the MiG-3), but some of the other images he did don't have the cooling slots, but still has the early MiG-3 cowl with its lumps and bumps, but the oil cooler is the shape of the late model...
