I have never heard of using corn starch. I just used it and it works out great. I use 80 grit on the first sand and sometimes the final sand. That may seem to much, but I hate sanding. And the models still come out fine. Once I primer the plane I step it down a notch and use 240.

Sorry to bring the corn starch topic again. I have never seen this process and would love to find out how this works. Does one pour it over the sanding location and then just sand away with a lower grade of sandpaper or what? Hope someone puts some light on this topic. Perhaps not the ideal place to put the description as I do not wish to detract from the original topic but I suppose if it is something worth knowing it may be used by other potential users. Thanks.

I had never heard of this process until now. I tried it on a wing that had just cured from the epoxy. I only put a little on and it worked fine. I use 80 grit sandpaper that I buy at the automotive store to sand the epoxy until I have taken off all the sheen or until it gets dull, but not thru the fiber. I hate it when the sandpaper clogs up. I'm going to try it on areas I have applied bondo. In the first sand of bondo the sandpaper will clog.

Reuben - I see no problem bringing up the use of Corn Starch. It works so I want to pass it on to all that I can. Just as Boyd has said, sprinkle some corn starch over the area you wish to sand, and go about your normal sanding routine. Boyd is a few steps ahead of us all with his skills so if he can use 80 grit to initially cut the epoxy I may try to do the same. I am a bit heavy handed so I use 220 grit sandpaper to initially cut the epoxy. I'll try to use 80 grit next time I need to. By the way, I love the F-86. A beautiful airframe. Chic

Thanks for the info....the problem is to go and find the corn starch locally! Hehehehe.... I will try it on my next project. 220 grit seems to be fine if the corn starch 'adds' to the sanding capabilities. Again....thank you.

My computer is acting up and may die soon, so while I can - "A Happy and Fulfilling Thanksgiving To "YOU" All. Remember to "NOT" discuss no politics at the dinner table. Smile. Don't know when I'll get primer on the airframe. Was waiting for warmer weather, but looks like that is a joke in itself. You guys are a blessing to me. Thanks for staying with this build and with me. Looks like I may have a 62 deg day or two next week. May have to go for it and then rush the model indoors. That ought to be a calamity. Will at least make an effort. Am waiting to hear from Klasskote about using their prime below their recommended 70 deg. Again, thanks to you all. Chic

Hey Guys,
Just received my order of scale rivets, screws heads, etc. from Chad Veich. My God, what beautiful work. I'm still sitting here with my mouth hanging open at the material, cutting, and quality of his products. Will submit photos as soon as I can. The mouse on my computer is acting up, it functions intermittently. Tried another mouse with the same problem. Guess my operating system and drivers are beginning to fail. Of course I just paid the Dell computer off - so crap will begin to breakdown just like clock work. Chad's stuff is, is just WOW. Chic

Also worked on the hub for static display. Used Ziroli's hub kit and an article in a model magazine to add stuff. The blades were reshaped, tips are yellow waiting for the flat black. O'yea, the ????? marks in the previous post was Chad Veich's website. Add 3 W's then .cwvmodels.com Can't print a website here. Chic

Thank you Chic for the kind words and for posting the pictures. I do not wish to derail your thread but with your permission I would be glad to post a few pictures of models that are finished with my rivets and other surface details. Regarding my website it is primarily an online portfolio of my professional work and contains very little regarding the r/c related stuff. Unfortunately I have not had the time to create that web site yet, although it is on the "to do" list. As such if anyone has questions the best course is to shoot me an email at [email protected] and I would be happy to provide you with whatever information that you seek. As I mentioned in our correspondence I am a HUGE fan of anything made by Grumman with a propeller on the front and so I have been following this thread for a long time. I cannot wait to see the finished product.
