Chic,
Great job on the doors AND it looks like you cleaned up the workshop as well
Avenger back together waiting for my friend to help me balance it.
Way too hot to try and do a maiden, maybe after monsoon season hits

Okay guys,
Having a senior moment, I'm sure I read/saw that the balance point is 6-7/8" from the leading edge but can't seem to find it.
Friend is coming tomorrow night to help me balance it

Thanks
Larry

Larry - Your memory serves you very well. Measurement is dead on -- 6 - 7/8". Just heard from BatteriesAmerica. Thanks man. Chic

Chic,
Thanks for checking.
I'm thinking the guys at BatteriesAmerica were on vacation as I got an email yesterday with the tracking number for my order which was delivered last week
Hope your taking a rest from the build.
BTW did you ever see the movie Wing and a Prayer? If not let me know and I'll send you mine to borrow, lot's and I mean LOTS of TBF's/TBM's oh and there are also some actors in the movie LOL

Chic,
dont rush it for competition. I wish i could have had a few more flights on my avenger before topgun because I was getting through shaking stuff loose on my flights while i was there. Nasa scale classic is in october and the same location as the nats and that should give you time to get her flown and broken in.

Hey Navy - like I said to Larry, I greatly appreciate you too checking in and giving me good - solid advice. Disappointed yes, but being a bit more realistic is certainly the way to go. Will look in on NASA October, certainly makes more sense. Again, thanks. Chic

Looking great Chic.

I picked up one of these at First In Flight last month.
Super accurate, not cheap but might make things a little easier and it gives your total weight.

Okay Guys,
Good and bad news.
friend came over to help me balance the Avenger last night (good news)
Now for the BAD and I mean REALLY bad news.
Attached the wings, lifted by the wing tips to put on the balancer and lo and behold the outer rib and wing sheeting have way.

WHooooooooo, that East Coast glue doesn't like the Midwest HEAT. Now that is a great catch Larry that can force you to check into the other outer wing. Really wonder what caused that. Chic

Peter, so happy to hear from you. I was so into trying to get the Avenger ready for paint, that I forego going to First In Flight this year. Maybe next year I'll meet you there. How do you like the Balance Meter? Expensive yes, but from what I hear, quite functional and on point. Thanks for checking in on me. Chic

Chic.
The other wing seems absolutely fine (read as *** knows)
So I've been searching for 60 minute epoxy all over the web, Loctite used to make large bottles but alas no more, now it's only the .84 ounce double tube
Guess this will put me a bit behind on the Trojan build as I try and figure out how to repair???Anybody have any ideas for me?

Larry, for one, I never use 5 min epoxy, I know you don't either. I will use 15, and 30 minute epoxy most of the time. But for the areas where I need strength, I only use System Three T-88 Structural Epoxy. I had a mechanical engineer who tell me about it and I really, really like it. I have used it throughout the Avenger Build. I get mine off of Ebay for about $25 or so. Seen it on Amazon, Aircraft Spruce, etc. for about the same price. Chic

Chic
Thanks for the info, we used thick CA when we sheeted the wings, should have known better.
Can't use 15/30 min epoxy as the temp in the garage now hovers around 84 in the AM and it will flash off too quickly.
Will check out the System 3 in the next day or 2

Thanks again brother
Larry

Hey guys,

Yup that Hysol is some sticky stuff man !!

Chic, The balance meter is very user friendly.
- Input landing gear config. bicycle or tricycle.
- distance from mains to the nose or tail wheel.
- distance from mains to CG.
- distance from CG to where you want to place the required weight.
Total weight is calculated automatically.

I plot all these points on the floor with masking tape.

Okay guys,
Just ordered System Three Epoxy, hoping it will not flash off too quickly in my workshop as the temps are now moving into triple digits.
Just looked at the wing again and am going to try and epoxy as many of the ribs on the bottom as I can get too before moving on to the tops.
My biggest concern is getting the outer rib back in the exact position where the wings meet....
Going to order a tube of Hysol just in case

Trust me - A Separate Purchase Is Necessary For Application. I learned that the hard way. Had to wait a little longer to receive the applicator before I could use the Hysol cartridge. Still working on that rat's nest. Chic
