Mike,
Just click on one and it will reformat itself, then scroll with the arrow on the pic, it will switch from one to the next. I dont know what happened!

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
That seems to work. Each picture takes a while to load up though, probably because of the very large size.
Maybe check your default camer set-up, for a smaller file size.

Rudder
Fins and rudder have been sheeted and need only sanding. At this point, the ribs for the stab and elevator have been cut out and assembly will begin this week. I hope the large 8 feet fuselage construction will begin for the week end. The groundhog said there is 6 more weeks of winter since it saw its shadow. That should give me enough time to finish the frame of this Lancaster...time will tell.

Mike,
About the scale mufflers
They come from Keleo Creations. You may call Kelvin, a friend I may call him in time, made me numerous scale mufflers for my models. The web site is the following: http://www.keleo-creations.com The web site contains numerous scale mufflers for popular applications. I used it fo my radial engines and for many warbird scale mufflers. It sounds deeper almost like the real thing and sure looks good.

I'm willing to part with my bird now, need room for another big project coming very soon.
Btw great Lancaster build on here, wow never seen scale muffler system before, are they made for different scales of Lancaster models or just made custom for you model.

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
This looks like the same plane that was for sale on rc canada last fall.... an electric foam built plane : http://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/showthread.php?t=80383, Nevertheless this is not a "for sale thread", there is a specific section on this site reserved for this purpose. To answer your question, yes those exhaust are custom built for the present project.

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Well I was greatly surprized and highly motivated to discover that another group is building the same plane I am. 3 "Aussies", very talented builders have b uilt and flown this plane. I have learned a lot by reading the thread they started. I can only say that I ended up finding this thread very accidently because if I was to search RCU for an Avro Lancaster it is very likely that I would not find it! The link is here: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_80..._1/key_/tm.htm Enjoy the reading and I will certainely learn from their experience.

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Well back in business for the cold season here.
Nice surprize, I love this project. i get boxes delivered to my door regularely, I strated to hibernate ans spend 5 hrs per evening preparing the assembly of the fuselage. Lots of planning and modification to improve scale on each formers. I 'm almost through. I guess I will start posting pictures tonight. The bomb bay and tail section should be done and functional by next week. I only hesitate for the bomb bay operation to use pneumatic cylinders or to use servos for the opening and closing. I guess I will go all the way with pneumatic and use the air from the brake system.
Nice work john on the cowls and I cannot wait to take delivery of my "new cowls"
Still lots of pleasure and enjoyable hours ahead!

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Well tonight I got some drawings made for the bombbay doors and plan to add stringers groves for the bottom of the fuselage.. Lots of fitting and making sure the bombs will hanfg free in there and that the floor for the bomb bay will be high enough but not too high to weaken the wing joining area. Been playing and inspecting the wingspanmodel ERS and will make the bomb bay configured for 14 bombs. the pylons and hook add a 3/4 inchspace b etween the floof and the bombs. this make the bombs hang lower and the front former being about 1.2 inch shorter than the mid bomb bay forces to make the bomb bay that much deeper into the fuselage. Must inprove the fuselage strenght.

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Hello
Some slow progress over the week end. I built a jig for the fuselage, enabling to build it in 2 half. I plan to stinng the top and then flip the fuselage to string and sheet the bottom and make the bomb bay doors.
The plan does not provide any details for bomb bay doors as well as a bomb bay, so lots fo thinking, over and over and planning designing and most of all lots of pleasure and satisfaction once it is figured out.
Most of all this modification makes the fuselage only 1/2 strong so need to plan to have all the strenght on the top half and plan for reinforcement for thewing attachment area.
I am making a 14 bomb configuration (6 x 1.5 inch each bombs). This is a big model the fuselage only is 8 feet long, the bomb bay itself will be approximately 45 inch long. Started making some formers for the bomb bay doors, they will be 1/2 inch thick and skinned inside as well. Here is some pictures attached.

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Looking great. I had the chance to see one in person as it was landing in Winnipeg. The sound is unbelievable. Here is the video that my son took as I just wanted to watch it thunder by in a high speed pass. The pictures are from the second pass the plane made as it dropped it's gear and landed. The plane is from the Canadian Warplane Heritage museum.
http://www.youtube.com/user/fyfefami...12/uEZSN_nz5pc
http://www.warplane.com/pages/aircraft_lancaster.html
It is named after Pilot Officer Andrew Charles Mynarski, VC A Winnipeg native, he was awarded the VC while crew on a Lancaster, his plane was hit and on fire. On his way out he noticed the tail gunner was trapped and crawled through fire to try to save him. He couldn't get him out and the tail gunner pleaded with him to save himself. Just before he jumped from the plane he turned and saluted the tail gunner. Unfortunately the fire had given him very bad burns and he died from his wounds. Miraculous the tail gunner survived to tell the story of pilot officer Mynarski.
I live not far from the school that he attended and that now bears his name.

Sorry to get off topic, I searched Lancaster because it is very close to my heart and found this thread. Good luck with the build and hope she flies very well for you.

Hello Dave,
The Tail wheel is Robart part 657, and accomodate a 3 inch wheel. Unless you have foam wheels I suggest you get the Dave Brown 3 inch wheel.
Cheers!

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Hello Mike,
Lucky guy. You can also get a ride in this plane with a donation of a 1000$, depending on ones view it is cheap. Since this is one of the only 2 lancaster still flying I'm tempted to scale this one but it lack a lot of detail informations. The only other one still flying is the BBMF Pa474 "QRM".
The Lancaster has a lots of storys in commonwealth countrys for the ones who buiilt it, flew it and most of all the pride of it. The Lancaster is not a popular model but still is the most important bomber of its time.

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Hello again,
pic 1= activity outside - pic 2 activity inside...
pic 3 -I got the geometry for the bombbay doors and modified formers to scale sbape at the bottom of the fuselage.
pic 4 & 5 got the tail wheel sorted out to use a single servo for rudders, and tail wheel, using a 135 oz servo plenty of power for the task.Notice the mounting blocks on the side for the elevator servos. the servo arms will reach out the fuselage by 1/2 inch. This should remove one servo from the tail for a total of 3 instead of 4. I got plenty of power with the 4 OS pumped 91 but keeping the tail as light as possible should keep me from adding weight to the front and on target to 40-45 lbs.
Setting the wing tubes and the inner portion of the wing is next.
I had to install the tailweel to see something moving and give myself some hope... this inert pile of wood drives me nut.

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Well another nice week end...
I have started detailing the rear Turret, the"FN20". I include a look of what is the real thing and where I got so far. The detailing will go up to the cabin light, in fact all there is in there, just a pass time for the week days where so little is done on the main thing. Take a look.

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Of course I have not only done the fun stuff, I worked on the main course, the fuselage. I have ordered the EQ10 power expander and the Turbo Reg from "Smart Fly", http://www.smart-fly.com/Products/products.htm , to power up this thing reducing from 6 batteries to 3 using Lithium ion for the 15 servos in there, the bomb bay doors using 2 retract servos and 14 pylons for the bombs, this thing needs a power house of 2 5200 mah lithium ion and of course the glow driver 4500 mah NiMH and a last one ov 3V 750 mah for the cabin lighta, the recog "IFF" lights and the Nav lights as well as the Landing lights.
So far all the stringing has been done on the fuselage and all is nice and "square" and going as planned. Basically redesigning the whole plan, I use mostly as a sketch to measure from. The tail wheel has been installed and next step will be to fit the main wing phenolic tubes and installing the stabilizer, the fins and "rudders". This is going to be fun since more moving parts will be added on. So hopefully the inner part of the wing will begin next week and should be done for the new year.
What has been taking so long is the measure of the bomb bay doors, planning it and designing it from skratch, redesigning the bottom part of the fuselage to scale,, making over 200 grooves....and of course sitting 75% of the time watching the whole thing taking shape.
Here are some pictures of the fuselage back on its belly, last one is where I sit for long hours Planning with a nice cigar and a fresh beer.

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Back on the work bench,
I stopped looking and started working tonight, cut all the inner wing ribs and they need to be cut again for the main spar, trailing edge spar and flaps. I redesigned using the same NACA shape which is surprizingly the same as the original full scale plan. The wing tubes are 1 3/8 and 1 inch. the middle one will need to be cut shorter as well as the trailing edge and the front tube. To obtain a perfect alignment I made a Rib pattern to cut and sand to the matching size. I will use the same pattern to cut the trailing edge and the main spar.
Everything lines up perfectly and very little adjustement will need to be done, in fact there is nothing or a 1/16 inch difference at the tip of the front tube difference and the level is on the noze. the Wing incidence is as per the plan and the full size plan. the stab will be placed as per the plan since I have no other references and this plane has flown before, some fellow buddies from Australia, Bundi, had succes with it so no question about it.
The next step will be to put together the inner wing and secure all the phenolic tubes in place once perfect alignment is set. Over the hollidays the sheeting will be done on the fuselage and I will most certainely get those bomb bay doors to open and close...another moving part and why not put together the tail and rudders for more life to it!
Also some electric part came in to power up this monster.

RE: AVRO LANCASTER
Thanks for the wishes Scalenutz,
Cannot beleive I spent well over 6 hours calculating with precision the location, the spacing and the size of the under body "IFF" recognition lights, and making a craddle and a "can" to fit and detail the mid turret. The inner part of the can will allow for better detailing of the turret. See the attached graphic of the mid turret, long hours of fun...
