RE: Roamin Research Mig 3 build!!
Ram-bro, Jeff mentioned it in another thread it will be a 125 inch span, meaning Jeff's is going to be a little over 31% scale.
Big monster... I can't wait. Hopefully Jeff will be kitting and planning it as I'm most assuredly getting one even if I need to sell off a testicle.

Hi Evil,
This plane may be gone at the end of the build. I am working on a deal with Ram-bro trading it for one that's finished. But you never know. If I end up keeping it I will definetly check in with you and your vast library of info.
Thanks,
Fred

Hey , I heard that......., don't blame you if you change your mind. I am so surprised at how much info there is out there on the Mig 3. I happened to stop by my LHS and found a Squadron Signal book that has some good info and pics. The web has also yielded a potporri of info, and then there is Evil himself Just a few that have caught my eye

Anything that contains your DNA might bring you enough money to buy a couple of wheel collars

Hey PJ,
Would love to help on the B 17, I'll glue in the hinge blocks for you, LOL
Evil,
I was originally going to do a 3 piece wing, but I don't have the wing hardware and it will be a pain with the retracts right at the dihedral joint. I decide to make a 2 piece wing where it separates in the center of the flat section. This way the outer panels and dihedral joint is not disturbed. I will have an aluminum tube joining the two panels right behind the retract wells almost under the main spar . I'll have locating pins in the front and rear of the panels.

Check6, all is looking good. You build faster than I can dream......Any issues with the formers yet? I thought I read somewhere about an issue .
Evil, what is the difference between the mig1, mig 3 early and late versions? You mentioned something about the rear of the fuse limits the scale paint schemes that can be used.
Check6, looking at thatt long fuse, is the servo compartment under the cockpit on the plans or the wing? Do the plans show servoes way up there in the nose?

There are two primary generations of MiG-3.
The early ones didn't have leading edge slats, and the pitot tube was located directly in the wing leading edge (later models had it slung under the wing).
The top of the gun hood change dramatically, to replace the ShKAS with the ShVAK or UBS cannons.
The exhaust thingies were changed, with a new fairing covering almost the entire first exhaust port.
The horizontal stabilizators were modified, changing the shape of them slightly (more area).
By the end of 1941 almost all the MiG-3's tail wheels were fixed down and the doors removed and replaced with a leather or canvas boot.

RE: Roamin Research Mig 3 build!!
Jeff,
The MiG-3 has been one of my favorite planes since I saw one in the Russian Air Muesum when I was in Moscow in 1986. Sure it was a poor mock up then, but it was a great looking plane. Since then I've spend hundreds of hours gathering data on the plane, importing books, magazines, blueprints & maintenance manuals from Russia etc.
The Wiki article on the MiG-3 I actually started and mostly manage when I can.
Honestly there are only a few planes I know a lot about, the MiG-3, the Fw 190 (A & D) and the Ta-152. Other stuff is in the brain about most Luftwaffe and Russian birds, but those three are my primary field of intrest.
This explains why I would be willing to sell a testicle for the MiG-3 you are designing...
