I have same saito 125 as u do, was wondering where your cg is set at. I did my first flight at 4 1/2'' with about 2 ozs tail wt. It did fly good but took full down trim for level flight. Just wondering..
Ttaylor63,

You may also want to check your elevator setup. Take the plane and set it on a work stand where the plane sit level and take the elevator trim back to 0 ( no down or up trim ), and see where the elevator sit. You may have some up elevator at neutral. I had the same problem on my Top Flite A6 Texan on her first flight. I, like yourself ran out of down trim. I did get the plane back on the ground. One of my club member ask me to set the plane in my stand and take out the trim and then we saw it. When I throught I was at neutral, I had 2 to 3 meters of up on the elevator. Did a quick field setup and on the next flight, no trim was use for the elevator. Before you recheck your CG, check your elevator setup!! I hope this help!!!
Hope to fly my H9 P-51 this weekend!!!

usually with rear "flying" control surfaces the rear stabilizer is an inverted air foil. I set up my elevator with a flat top surface. Sonny, does your rear stabilizer look like that?

Here's an extreme example:

i balanced between 4.5 and 4.75 inch and it only needed a couple clicks of down.
ive since moved my battery rearward a bit into the radio compartment. i took the 100 off and put the 125 on and wanted to move the battery to make up the difference in the weight.
You might need to check your elevator in the nuetral position and see if it has and up in it.....Does your radio have a sub-trim?.....mine does.......i can set neutral trim without using my trim controls.

i run cool power mv 15%.
if your a little rich on the low end ...it'll shake hard too. but sometimes ya need a little rich to get that transition. bad thing is the whole plane is a drum.....lol. hollow with a stretched skin.....loose things will vibrate and make sound all over the place

Hey Guys, If your P-51 is completed could you post some pics? I would be interested in seeing exhaust set ups and other modifications.

Thank you.

I love my Turnigy Accucel-6 50W 5A Balancer/Charger
They make a bigger one, too.

Tony Howard kit sit this plane off!!! I think more people on this thread have this kit on their P-51. This mod is worth the money!!!

Sonny, I actually requested the exhaust kit as a Christmas present, I agree they do look great. The H9 exhaust are really lame, my H9 P-40 doesn’t even have exhaust because I thought they were so horrible. It looks like the Mustang uses the exact same part as the P-40.

Also, did you have a fitment problem with your 4 stroke, is that why your prop back plate is forward out of the cowl?

bradyb,

No fitment problem with the engine. Trying to hang a engine at 2:00AM and half a sleep don't work!!! I was off a few meters and I just left it there. Now I am waiting on a servo speed control to come so the gear go up and down like the real mustang. I just email Tony to see if he had a wing gun kit for the stang. My kit came without them!!

Thanks for the pictures you sent with your email. I always like seeing pictures of my kits after they're installed.

I've looked at making up wing gun kits several times and each time concluded it probably wasn't the best use of my time for me at this point. I may someday, but at the moment I just have too many irons in the fire.

Ok guys here are some pictures on what I am working .I have some trouble with Cowling fit.Mine is to loose/big. Does any one had same issues. I also made a paper trace for engine cut out and I put some dimensions on it.
If you are using a FG20 ( I Do) or FA125 you can use that as a guide and go from there.
Thank You
Adrian

Here I am following Adrian's lead:

I found an easy spot for the fuel filler. The glow plug connector also mounts easily next to the screws for the cowl. I also included a size comparison pic as well.

Just an idea...in case you need to take the tank out...is still not to late to do it.
I have several hours fuling around with my FG20.I found the way to adapt the CDI Rexcel automatic time advancing.Needs to be 28-30 BTDC. In testing I found that new sensor it first fire at 30 and it stay on untill gets to 0 TDCand that because of the magnet diameter.
I hope that tomorrow I will make the mounts for the sensor. Original saito seams to be at 0 I have no way to check it.Since original willnot fire.Next step is walbro 456.If any one did it...let me know.

Thank You
Adrian

I can’t stand the wobbly tail gear. I think all it needs is a taller fixed-collar and a wire/axle that actually fits snuggly in the collar. An idea that might work for now is to find a brass or aluminum tube/sleeve the would fit in the collar and around wire.

It needs to wobble so that it does not bind the rudder push rod.

Huh?

It's more likely to bind if it wobbles, because the horn that attaches to the rudder pushrod goes out of it's normal plane of operation.

On the RCG thread we have been talking about adding a cross brace at the top of the wire, with a wheel collar inserted to act as a bearing of sorts. The wheel collar would not be tightened to the wire. This should minimize the wobble, as the top of the wire will not be able to move around. The problem is if you've already cut the wire according to the instructions, it will be too short.

The key for this plane is not to add much weight at the back...

I had the same issue with my cowl. Its like they cut them to long. I ended up sliding mine back over the fuse 1/4" and it fits much better. Here's a picture of mine. I'm working on a retractable tail wheel and doors. The drop tanks are from RC-Firepower.

Best regards

That looks awesome John. I really like the four blade. Any ideas for some realistic gun ports?

Who makes this four-blade propeller?
Do you fly with it?

The prop is static prop from topflight. I'm ordering a four blade from Zinger 18-6/10. As far as gun ports go after I get the tail wheel and door finished I'll work on the guns. Scaledail did a great bash on Kyosho's 40 size P51 here on RCU. This Hangar Mustang has a lot of potential going for it. It would be a worthy candidate for a major kit bashing.

Best regards

Headup Everyone!!

Take a look at the pictures and you will see what is left of my left main gear hub. I sit the plane down to take some more pictures and the plane was sitting left wing down. My first throught that the left main was not lock in the down position. On a close look I saw the wheel was off of the hub, so I pickup the plane to put it on my stand and you see what was left on the ground. I am so glad that I was not landing this plane!!! Now I do have 2 sets of the old Hangar 9 P-51PTS wheel that are the same size as the one on this plane. So everyone please take a close look at your wheels, so this will not happen to you!!!

Odd. I had a wheel do that same thing.
The hubs on the PTS wheels arent drilled for the same axel size. They have a bigger axle diameter.
Luckily my inner hub wasnt broken and i was able to use it. and it was my left wheel also.....hmmmmmmmmmm........the wheel that gets soaked with fuel residue.

Would love some solid disk wheel covers to make brakedrum backing plates.
