RE: Who's getting the new aero-works P-51
I am ordering one today. I just have to go get my card
What a great plane! They reall did a fantastic job on the kit. Does it come with a cockpit or will I need one to install? Too bad we have to wait until August. How about a "pre-order" deal

Karl - consider there's a good chance that not everyone that has this particular P-51 on order either; reads, cares to provide input, or maybe doesn't even know about RCU.

RE: Who's getting the new aero-works P-51
After all that work , and the gorgeous plane that resulted, why didn't they make the nose more scale. A 5" spinner is too small for an 86" span Mustang. It needs a larger spinner.
Tony-Howard has put in a lot of effort to improve the nose of the Top Flite Mustang which is the same size, and uses the same 5" spinner that's too small. (thus making the nose contour wrong) http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_61..._1/key_/tm.htm
The smooth contour of the P-51 nose and spinner is a must , especially in a $1900 kit. Maybe this is one reason some have held back??

Here's why I wont buy one. For the money, composit arfs P-51 is a better value and its SCALE!

Kit and main and tailretracts $1734.00

I have yo say I agree. I thought the price tag was way too high for a all wood construction.

I to have to agree, the aw p-51 has a lot of nice extras but when you take it out to the field its still has iron on covering. I hope they changed the gear from robart (top flight p-51). plastic does not work very well at 20+ lbs. I have a comp-arf 51, while it is hundreds more and a whole lot more work, the finished product is simply amazing. how is AW 51 better than the top flight? is it the same plane with some add ons. HUUMMMMM.

RE: Who's getting the new aero-works P-51
Just my opinion but the Aeroworks P-51 should be in the $699-899 price range with the included retracts. Lets not forget this is just another Chinese ARF...pretty as it is. And really, the deviations from scale on the nose and horizontal stab are really unforgiveable at the near 2K price point. Just my opinion! Hanger 9s new P-51, though slightly smaller, is a much closer to scale model, includes oleo retracts as well and they did it for $319!

Perhaps the AW plane looks a bit better than this but definitley not almost four times as much better. I agree about the price being way too high.

Sorry Aeroworks. Xcalibur never looked like THAT. Looks like they polished and waxed it right before every sortie. Kill markings and bombs hanging on it and all. If you want to do most of the time consuming work it takes to make these planes look more authentic, then maybe the price could be more justified, sort of. This plane needs a LOT of work.
