Default H9 Spitfire Engine Choice

<div>I just started a Hangar 9 Spitfire and would like suggestions on engines. Saito 4 stroke is a given as our LHS has all plane items at employee price and I love the Saitos. Calls for a .72-1.00 4C.
I have a new Saito 1.15 with a Pitts that is still waiting on the P-51B. The LHS has a 1.00 and the Pitts for it in stock.</div>

I have the H9 recommended Saito 100 with a slimline pitts and mine will shet n' get (its fast). The 115 should be even faster. Check weight too. Even with the 100 and the pitts, It needed tail weight to CG it. If the 115 is heavier you are still good but watch your fuel consuption.

Hey skippyspad

A 72FS to 91FS would do the job excellent. Why to stress the structure with a more powerfull engine? The H9's are delicate planes and do not like being overpowered. I have had quite a few of them like: P-51 60size (100FS), Corsair 60size (100FS), P-51 60size (91FS), P-47 60size (100FS), P-51 150size (180FS) and P-47 Giant (3W28 competition)....

From all the previous airplanes that I have flown all the 100FS airplanes are gone by now....(they were pretty much disintergrated from the vibration and the excess power..)

I suggest that you 'd go for a Saito .72 or a .91FS even if it is not a Saito.

I have a Saito 125 in mine. More than required but not to heavy either. Mine is on CG with no lead, I just put dual receiver batteries behind the wing bolts. A sweet engine, pulls my Spit around with authority, while never working very hard. One of the RC Mags had this combo over 140 mph, but with a 16x6 mine is powerful……but not crazy.

Thanks guys. I'll pick up the Saito 1.00 with the pitts on Friday. Save the 1.15 for the Mustang.

G'day fellas,

How would a Saito 80 power a Hanger 9 60 size? , I have one looking for an aircraft at the moment and I wanted a H9 but was going to wait and get a bigger Saito in the order of 90 to 115 , but if the 80 will power any of the h9 I'll be quite happy! would a 13x8 do the job?.. also I am quite a sedate flyer and don't want it to have "unlimited vertical", just a nice scale warbird performance is fine with me. Also how would the balance work out? I'd have the empanage servos movedforward into the fuse and use some nice nyrods and cram the batt as far forward as it would go.. I was also thinking of using the 80 in a Kyosho 50 size with a 3 blade , whatdoyas reckon?? I would prefer the slightly larger H9 product but if the 80 isn't enough the Kyoshos are around the same price here.. Thanks in advance..

I have a Saito 1.00 in my spitfire and it flys fine. If you have no restriction on noise, run the engine without the silencer. Just run a straight pipe out of the cowell. It is not that much more noise than with it baffled. You have to run the low end a lot more rich. I also run 30% heli fuel in it. You also can run a 20 oz. Dubro fuel tank without very much cutting. My spit is over 100 mph.

Good luck with a very good flying airframe.

Thanks. I ended up putting a Saito 1.00 with a slimline pitts muffler. I'm still breaking in the engine. I need to run another tank or two through and get it leaned out.
