I've been working on the wing for the last few days. Servos and retracts are installed. I took quite a bit of time getting the gear doors to lay flat. To do so it was necessary to cut a 1/16" off each of the aluminum gear braces and drill a clearance hole on the inside of the door to allow for the head and eclip of the shock pin. Pics attached.

Good job Efly! Is TopFlite including the aluminum gear door brackets in the P-47 ARF or do you have to get them separately from Robart? I'm going to pull the trigger on this one when Tower gets them back in stock.

Hi Jack - thanks. Yes the gear door mounts are included in the ARF. Enjoy it when you get it.

I picked up one yester day I have a da 85 that is homeless right now. This thing comes with all kinds of stuff. Its pre glued hinges aluminum spinner. 1 week of work at night and you could have this flying. I just wanted a knock around bird for WBOR that I could over power and have fun with. The only hold up might be the gear and that should be here on Friday.

Hey Terry! Good choice for a home for your engine. These planes fly great. I had my eye on the Hangar 9 GS P47 but never got one. Hope it works out good as you deserve it. Maybe we'll see it at Bomber Field! Paul

Finnaly got mine today after Tower of ****s sent me the wrong plane, some piece of crap foamy! Man is this one nice kit!!! If you wanted to, you could get this puppy in the air pretty fast. I have a problem though as I can't leave well enough alone, so I will embark on some senseless detail work and dullcoat her. I ordered a DLE 55 as the dimensions were almost perfect for the prop to standoffs. PLenty of room in the cowl and in the fuse, this thing is massive. Any suggestions on a good set of lite aluminum 5 inch wheels and tires?

I just painted my dubros with Chrome paint. Couldn't find a reasonable priced set of alum tires.

Last night I was at Terry's house and took a look at that TF GS Jug ARF. Well done TF - I would do some changes but this is only me.

Guys, there will be a kit bash in the near future!

Anyhow - this airplane comes with a spinner, to be exact spinner hub, nicely done and pre-drilled for the DA50. Many other engines adapted this bolt pattern, so it fit's a pretty selection of engines. Not for the DA85 - here in the picture below is the modified hub for the 85.

Top Flite did it again and released a winner!

My buddy is using a DA-50 in his TF kit that he fiberglassed. I'm using the 3W55 in my fiberglassed TF Kit........you should be just fine with an ARF covered in monokote with the DA

I can ask him.

Also 2 things. I spoke to Aerotech Models and they are sending me the stick and gunsight only from their cockpit kit. I already had the Topflite cockpit kit in my P-47 kit. These 2 items will help make it more realistic.

im not sure if thats enough power. i am going to put a 24X12 on it. The hardest part about this arf is opening the box....topflite did a great job. This thing has a 1/2 inch thick firewall on it. Some one could be done with this bird in one weekend. my only hold up at this point is waiting on the retracts.

Personally I think it will shake the plane apart over time. Also I heard (but can't confirm) that the muffler won't fit correctly so you will have to hack up the cowl. Is that true since you have it mounted.

If you get the 85 to work though the plane is going to be ballistic. My 3W55 flies my fiberglassed TF Jug pretty fast and its topping 30lbs so I can't imagine the 85 on something around 24lbs

you are correct it looks like i will need to do some glass work on it, however i happen to know a guy who works wonders with metal and has hidden a exhaust for a 90cc in one of these jugs. I will let you know soon.

Here is my buddies with the DA50. Note: This was the kit not the ARF but should be about the same. He routes his diaphragm tube into the carb and had to add 3lbs of lead to the nose for balance.
