Default Spitfire finish question. HELP!

I am finishing my first scale warbird. I glassed it and it is now painted with exterior latex and it has turned out great. My question is that I am fixing to spray poly on it but do you apply decals before the polyeurathane are after? Thanks for any help. I am using water base poly.

decals first, then spray. BUT by past experiance water base poly will not hold up to nitro or gas. Be sure to let the latex dry at least 3 weeks to gas out. As much as you want to clear coat it be patient and wait!

your better off clear coating it with www.warbirdcolors.com clear than the latex poly, the WBC is a catalized urathane is compatable with the latex paint, and is fuel proof, WB poly does soften when fuel is left sitting on it for extended periods of time.

Did you use flat latex or a smoother finish? I always used the flat. They dry quicker. I always spray a clear coat the a oil base polyurethane. Satin Clear Minwax. It will not attack the latex. I also spray the clear coat then decals on. With flat paints you can put the plane in a small room with a space heater. I have been able to clear coat the next day with good results...

the only thing about latex is it does not fully cure for at least 3 weeks.. After 1 day it is not even gassed out yet, put your nose to it if you can smell the smallest vapor it not done curing, it will be dry but not cured. I'm not saying you cant clear it because I have in a pinch, even then some of the paint orange peeled. just be sure to put lite coats of clear, not one heavy coat or you are asking for trouble.. good luck
