Greyhound has lost my crate?????
I'm starting to get a little nervous after shipping a crate to Fl. No one seems to know where it is. This box is 6 ft. x 2 ft. x 4 ft. made out oy 1/4 in. luan board. Kind of hard to miss. It was shipped 3 weeks ago. I have shipped over 35 planes by Greyhound and the longest it's ever taken has been 2 weeks. Anybody else have this problem. I have put a trace on it and a lost form. Everybody gives me the same story, until it shows up at the terminal it was shipped to, they have no way of tracking. Crazy setup. Anyway I would like your thoughts and maybe a course of action. It was insured for the max. which is only $300.
Thanks,
Fred

RE: Greyhound has lost my crate?????
Fred
been there done that. a couple years ago I got a Platt Zero from Mike M in
florida. same thing, got lost. after 3 weeks, I got a phone call from the local
Greyhound office.
I go down to collect the crate. they wont give it too me. no paperwork on the
crate, so they cant "check it in", and therefore cannot "check it out" to me.
where it was shipped from was a non computerized station. so, therefore no
real paperwork.
now, this crate sat in LA for 2 weeks! they (greyhound) did not know what to
do with it. on the crate, in VERY large letters was addressed to me, my address
phone number and all. plus the senders info. hmm, they couldnt figure it out
that they could call me, or Mike? well after 2 weeks they sent it to Bfld.
so, I go downtown, they wont release it. I go back next day, no help. I see
the crate, cant take it. they are trying to track down any info from the original
sending office.
next day (3 days now) I get a call from Greyhound. guy says come down now.
I get there, he tells me to pull up to the side to load the crate. I get there, he
helps me load it, and tells me to haul arse. he got tired of seeing it there,
knew me thru my ID (they had copies as well), talked to Mike to verify it all
as well. so the guy said go, and dont turn back.
of course I bail, get home and find the nose was broke[:@]. oh well, fixed it
and all was good.
Greyhound called me for a week and left messages for me to come back
down to the station...............never went, got what was mine.
good luck my friend, hope they find it Fred

BTW, I have received 2 items from Fred VIA Greyhound with no issues at all.

Fred, I hate to tell you this but it isn't insured for the value stated. The way it was explained to me is that is the value that you can claim. I found out the hard way....cost me $400. Goodluck . I use greyhound exclusively as you know and have shippedd just as many as you have with just the one loss. ASk greyhound directly if the crate is insured.

RE: Greyhound has lost my crate?????
I had the same thing happen to me when I live in Idaho. Had a plane shipped from Florida. They lost it somewhere in Texas, then it showed up in Salt Lake City. I drove down to pick it up instead of waiting longer. Don't really know how long it sat in SLC?
Since then I received two Ziroli Zero's from New England and they came in less than a week, no problems with that transfer.
Good luck!

RE: Greyhound has lost my crate?????
OK, guys what an ordeal. It has been over 3 weeks and I did everything possible to find out where the crate went. Filled out all the forms, claim forms, GLI numbers, sent fax's of my receipts. Spoke to the claim representatives every day and still no info. I decided to do my own investigation. I knew the crate was shipped from the Providence Terminal, and it's next stop would be NY. I obtained the NY number for the crating department and made the call. Low and behold the crate was sitting in there Terminal because it was too big to put on the bus. Yet it came from Providence on the same size Bus. The maximum dimesions Greyhound will take is 72 in. x 24 in, x 48 in. Before I built the crate they told me they would take up to 54 in. wide. So the crate sat in NY for 3 weeks, and no one gave me a call and let me know that the crate was too big to ship. Great communication. Anyway the plane is back in Prov. back on the same size bus that they said the crate wouldn't fit in. Am I missing something here????? Moral of the story, build the crate to there specs and do your own investigation.

Hi Fred,
Glad you found your crate. Makes you wonder how long it would have sat in the terminal. With all the fear of suspicous packages ya think someone should have checked it out. I sure hope we don't have any terrorist reading this forum.

RE: Greyhound has lost my crate?????
Hi Carl,
That's what I was thinking. This was shipped at the same time those terrorists were rounded up in NY. I have to say this was really the only bad experience I had with Greyhound. I have probably shipped 30 to 40 crates through the years and never had a problem. The longest it ever took was 14 days. I had shipped another crate a week later after they couldn't find this one. It went out to Oregon and got there in 10 days with no problem. I really have to check there sizes. They had measurements slapped all over the crate and none of them matched. The shipper told me 72 x 24 x 48 . The Greyhound book says maximum size is 72 x 24 x 53. The shipping labels they put on my crate said 82 x 30 x 47. Which one is it????? I guess I'll stay with the 72 x 24 x 48, never had a problem with those crates. My crate is safe and sound in my garage now.
