Default Royal Marutaka P-51D Mustang

This project has been going on for 20 years or so. The model was bought half built from a fellow modeller and was a bit crooked.

I started correcting the fuselage as much as i could, needless to say many times i thought of just throwing it away, i was that frustrated..But i would just leave it in the corner of the workshop and work on it periodically (glad i did).

Slowly it has come to the glassing stage, so i thought i'd do the finish online. Glassed the wings first coat, and the tailplane and bottom fuselage. im working on concealing the exhaust and on inner gear doors at the moment.

It will be done up as Bud Anderson's Olive drab "OLD CROW". I got paint masks done by Flightline Graphics in the UK. The proprietor, Nigel Wagstaff is an excellent guy, very helpfull. I highly recomend his business to anyone who is in the market for taylormade paint masks and decals.

Retracts are robart 550's with 7/16" ofset robostruts, engine is an OS 91 Surpass.

Im working on 2 more models so it might be a slow build[8D]

It would have been a tragedy to throw that away. I`m not a fan of the Mustang even though I had 2 of them the Sig and Jamara 60 size . They both flew good . But that looks the way a mustang should look, SLEEK. Just try to keep it light other wise you will end up with a snapper. I painted the Sig I had and it came out a bit on the heavy side. Had a Super Tiger 75 in it that died in flight 2 times. First time it snapped the repair was not too bad , but the second time was the end of it. It would glide about 10 feet and roll over. Nose down and all.

If I do another one it will be the B model for sure.

7aso,

Its your build thread that gave methe inspiration to complete mine.

I am worried a bit about the weight, royal/marutaka give you a box of block balsa and tell you to carve an airplane out of it. I have dremelled my way through most of the excess balsa however it is still rather heavy for my tastes...

Hi,

I am building this kit and i am confused for the diedral. In the instructions i cann read 2 3/8 from top of the wing on each side, another place 4¾ inches and when i try to match the with the plywoods to join the spars in place , it doesn't match.
Can you tell me what you put ?

Thanks

Pete
