Default ESM Bearcat new scheme

I was looking at the new offering on the bearcat overall blue with the red & white stripe. I have always liked this scheme, but then I noticed they have done it in a flat dark blue. Just about every pic I have seen of this ship appears to be a glossy dark blue. The previous Bearcat is glossy, I wonder why they went flat? I guess you could gloss coat it, but why add all the weight when the factory could have applied glossy.

big difference between a warbird now a daysmeticulously maintained and polished, and that of wartime, filthy grimy, dull gloss is patches etc. Get an airbrush and a bittole of acrylic gloss-minimal weight if it concerns you

To gloss a bird in a size, let's say 80 inches, you add about 4 ounces weight...

High gloss warbirds don't look right.

The finish at that time was Glossy Sea Blue, The only reason these photos were flattened was due to weathering.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is a huge difference between a dull coated finish and a "dirty weathered finish". In all the pics Ram-bro posted you can see reflections, a common side effect of a glossy finish. US 185 is also correct in stating that the official colr for US Navy fighters of the time was most commonly Glossy Sea Blue. As evidenced by the red bar on the modeled scheme it was a post war aircraft. By the way Ram Bro your number 2 pic is of the Blue Angel #2 ship. And why you bothered to put up a pic of a wind tunnel model is beyond me.

You guys actually like the dull coat? I prefer "scale" glossy. Like they did on their first version.

Not a model, the real deal in a big wind tunnel.

Manfred, please man......weathering is what a scale model needs. The wind tunnel "Model" as you call it is a full scale bird. A show room warbird looks like an ARF

Once again Ram-bro, weathering is one thing, flat cote on an original GLOSS full scale bird is another. I love flat coat on all appropriate warbirds, would you like an F7-F or a Panther in flat? Same thing. Not to mention, as I said before, everyone of those pics you posted shows a gloss coat, you can see reflections up the ol wazoo on everyone of them. WHERE is the flat coated Bearcat?

GENTS...

WELL the production versions are arriving in a few weeks (NOV)
and we will soon see if it is truly FLAT, SEMI GLOSS or GLOSS...

The photos from the Factory should be accurate,,, but then again sometimes they forget to tell us that it was a pre-production
photo and that they changed it to full gloss etc...

Not jumping to conclusions here...but just hang on SLOOPY, SLOOPY HANG ON !!!!!! (love that song)

IN anticipation of the BEARCATS ARRIVAL we already have the SIERRA PRECISION GEAR INSTOCK for those who want them!

I can't understand why anyone would want to dull the finish on any Bearcat. As far as I am aware it never saw active service and any dulling that did occure was through dirt and weathering.

Some of the guys over here in the UK went to trouble of using wire wool on their YT Bearcats to take off the gloss....No No No No No....They were never like that so sorry guys you ae wrong. Leave them Gloss !! Mine is staying gloss!

True, but they stayed glossy. The point of the gloss was for improved wind slippage and ease of cleaning. The model TBM is putting out is FLAT, doesn't even look like gloss sea blue, looks like non-specular sea blue.
