RE: fiberglass help
Hi
I use an iron on material called Solartex for surfaces that need a fabric covered look.. It is a material that is very durable/paintable and has a weave enveloped by the vinyl type plastic surface. looks very scale.
I have noticed the word Solartex used for material that is not the one i am talking about, so heads up when looking.

You will not want to glass this. Use some fabric covering such as Solartex, or 21st century. Glass will not taughten up and will be saggy. You need something that will shrink across the open bays. The basic mustang rudder was a fabric covered component.

I have also used both Solartex and Coverite. I get my Solartex from Balsa USA and the Coverite from Tower Hobbies. I like the way both look and feel.

RE: fiberglass help
the poly tak you brush on or thin and spray on the frame work. it activates with heat under your covering and makes for a better bond then the glue on back of the covering. the primer is just a high fill primer that fills the weave of the cloth for a smooth finish. i dont like coverite because it doesn't get as tight a solartex and it leaves an almost rubbery feel. I personally like solartex better. jeff

RE: fiberglass help
love the Solartex nothing comes close.
Looks like the guys set you on the right path to fabric coverings! Lets take it a tiny bit further and stitch it! Takes less time than you think, in fact its faster putting them on than the actual covering and you will be very pleased with how it looks.

RE: fiberglass help
fw190 the stitching is pretty cool, since this is my first hop at this I'm just going to try and get done in the normal way.Does the solartex get treated like the glass as far as filling with primer, sanding and painting.
Thanks
