I find these soft material cutting boards very nice as the blades last a lot longer not cutting into a hard subsurface.

So the 80" door is long enough for this build? That was my main concern, the plans are so long, wasn't sure how much bench I need. I found something that works even better for covering the plans, the backing from the SIG covering. Nothing sticks to it and its heavy enough to lay flat and not wrinkle. Now to convince Mike to send me some.

I rip a very straight 2X4 and screw another 1/2 door to the first full door.

I think I found the perfect engines for this, http://www.valleyviewrc.com/estore/v...-w-1-4x32.html 7 7/8" wide with the plugs and caps installed, should fit right inside the cowls without making any cutouts. Stoked, now to find the money to buy a pair of them.

Seems like some dle-55 rear exhaust would work.

The DLE 40 twin looks like it will fit. $470 from Tower.

It will, though the plugs will stick out past the cowl so openings will be needed, the VVRC has the smaller plugs canted backwards so it will just clear the cowl on the inside, no holes needed, which is the goal I am after. With cowl flaps open and good bffling the engine should stay cool and not be hanging out like the other engines would. The Evolution 7-77 is a perfect fit, but not enough power to fly the plane safely.

First time out this year. Started the engines and Dave heard some noise in the left engine. Shut her down and removed the engine. Found the spring starter's spring broke loose, which was probably making the noise, plus it chewed up the fuel lines.
After fixing all that, she flew great but had a small bounce and bent the left main axle. After fixing her, I was going to fly her the next day but the cross wind got a little strong so I chickened out on only the second flight of the season. She needs to be flown more often but I've got other stuff that I want to fly!

Yeah, mine don't get enough love, either!

In fact, I find keeping batteries up to par difficult when I go a couple of years without flying a plane (Nicads)

Any suggestions?

(Yes, I cycle them all winter)

Mine seems to hold up OK charging them about twice during the winter.

Thanks.

I'll have to read up on them.

Good in circumstances like sitting in an un-flown plane for two years?

Life packs when set to storage voltage will sit on a shelf for a long time and take a full charge as if new. Its what I am using in all my planes now.

Ive got a pair that havent been charged in 6 years, i put them on the charger last night and they took 150mah to top off in a 2300mah pack. I cycled them twice and they took 2320mah both times

Prop selection:
I've been using a 3-blade mejzlik 21X11.5N prop and getting around 6500 rpm's.
I'd like to use a scale 4 blade prop. Fortunately, for testing, I've got two biela 4-blade 20X10's from TBM that are used on my B-26.
Running the G-62's, I'm getting about 5600 rpm's on the 4 blade props.
TBM has some 19X8's but they are mustang shaped.
The next size is 18X10's: seems like this would get the engines rpm's back up to 6600.
TBM's engine size recommendation for props doesn't seem to correspond to what the G-62's actually produce. I've got rear carb DLI-55's on the B-26 that use the 4 blade 20X10 and they produce around 5800 rpm's: not the rpm's that I'm comfortable with at 6600 but should be good enough for a plane that will only fly in circles.

4 blade prop:
http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/BP1810-4BY.html

Sky shark has 190 hubs that are close to the unusual shape of the P-61 spinners: I would need to get two more of these and cut out two more slots for the prop.

BPhobbies has some aluminum spinners that may have the shape you're looking for at a more reasonable price. I used one on my LA-7.

I looked and they don't have any that are for a FW-190 (which is the closest that I've found to match the unusual shape of the P-61 spinner).

Finally after 3 years finished my Ziroli P-61. Glad to see there are more out there flying. Love this airplane. I ended up putting in DLE55's rear exhaust so I could use the scale 4 blade propellers. Has gobs of power and usually am flying around at 1/2 throttle or less. The twinsynch engine synchronizer takes all the trouble out of the engines for me and automatically keeps them matched up for me. Roll spoilers are very effective and this plane flies awesome.

Dornier,
Looks good. Post a video, if you have one.
What prop size did you get from TBM and what RPM's are you getting?
Also, what spinners and manufacturer did you use?
thanks

The spinners are from Esprit models up the road from me. They are on the web. The props are the Beila P-51 style from troybuilt. Size 19x8. I'm getting 6500 rpm when I checked when the engines had maybe two tanks through them. Rpm might be a little higher now that they have been broke in a little more. With the 55's and these props it works very well. More than enough power. I don't have any video yet. But when I get someone to take some for me I will post it.

thanks

Thank you. Was quite the project. Was glad to get it off the work bench haha. It flies really nice. Have about a dozen flights on it so far. The pilots are from Lyle at www.bestpilots.typepad.com. Lyle does great work on painting these guys. Running on jr12x radio, two life packs for radio and two li-ion packs for engine ignition. Haven't weighed it. Just to big and bulky to weigh. All I know it flies awesome haha. I'm guessing somewhere in the mid to high 45 lbs range.
