Looks like the XB-19 had radial engines, not V, and the timing is not quite right.
Same goes for Vought's XF5U, Republic XF-12 Rainbow, and Hughes D-2 and XF-11, I think.

ding, ding, ding You got it brother. It was 4.8 million = 61.8 million in todays dollars, and it was a failure, it didn't preform very well, for a number of reasons, notwithstanding, the underpowered, inverted Continental engines, and ending up catching fire and burning to the ground.

If anyone has something handy to post, please go ahead. I'll look for something if nothing happens for a while.
Meanwhile, a pic of the Bat:

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
I have an interesting one.
1. This is an airborne weapon
2. It was used in four missions all on the same day and, as far as I am aware, never again.

The clues point to the bouncing bomb, as will some of the others, but it is something very different...
1. This is an airborne weapon
2. It was used in four missions all on the same day and, as far as I am aware, never again.
3. It featured in a very well known war movie.

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
Sounds like a countermeasure
"Chaff" (strips of aluminum foil or similar material) was first used in 1943 to confuse German radars to protect bombers during the devastating Hamburg bombings.
For the Normandy landing in 1944, it was used to fool Germans into holding their forces in the wrong place, in operations Glimmer and Taxable, by creating the impression of a large fleet. Low flying bombers were dropping chaff and small ships added to the radar clutter.
The Brits codenamed it "Window" at the time. Wikipedia also mentions "Rope" - extended-length Window suspended from small parachute and dropped by aircraft of 218 and 617 Squadrons intended to deceive German Seetakt coastal radars - for Operation Glimmer and Taxable.
