Your almost there.

The aircraft company was started by a person that emigrated to the U.S.

All I've found so far..from that time period is the C-27 (related to military duty ) but I don't think that's it...(not a carrier type / folding wings )

The 28-70 or 28-90 look "fighter like" but???

Edit: BTW here's an interesting link I stumbled across

Remember they were scouts designated with an X meaning they were experimental.

Last hint for the night.

I did a google search to see what one of Ernies guesses was and the aircraft in question was in the picture next to Ernies.

XSE-2?

Or maybe the XRE-1 or 2, or 3?

Yes. The XSE-1 and XSE-2 were designed to be reconnaissance aircraft. the XSE-1 crashed during tests and the Navy thought the XSE-2 had too many problems to be useful.

By the way, I have a set of plans for a 99" XSE-2 that I plan to build when I gather enough information. I am having finding information on the paint color and the cockpit lay out.

Proptop, it's your turn

Wow...that was fun and very informative [8D] thanks...that's a rather obscure airplane there...one that I never knew existed!

Good luck on your project, and maybe you could do a build thread when you're ready?

Give me a little time to come up w/ a new question guys...

Sorry, guys; life called and I had to drop out for a while. I didn't realize the XSE was intended to operate off carriers. You can learn a lot with this thread. Thanks; Ernie P.

Rats! I thought the Gladiator would be the right answer, but as jharkin had already copped that answer, I was going to try the Bristol Bulldog. That's what I get for sleeping late! Thanks; Ernie P.
