Both good guesses men. . . but not the plane I have in mind. So, here is your next clue bit ~

2) This bird was the designer’s first monoplane. It was created as an executive transport but wound up being used primarily by the military. It was very rugged in construction.

Nope - not that one but the Beech 18 is certainly in the same vein - here is another clue that might help out . . .

3) In addition to the US Military branches, this model was sold to the RAF, RCAF, France, Japan, Portugal, Peru, and other foreign countries

> The shotgun approach - I love it! Those ships are all in the category that my mystery ship belongs to - although I’m aiming for a little smaller ‘executive transport’ (people were a little smaller back then - right?) )

So, here is another tip that may prove helpful ~

4) Prior to creating his own business - the designer of this warbird worked for (among others) Grover Loening (not the Wright Brothers!). [ack - the anesthetic must not have completely worn off from my cataract surgery yesterday! sorry for the error!]

Wow - another great possibility (sorry again about the Wright Bros error) - but not the craft that I describe.

But as a reward - here is another (hopefully more accurate) clue!

5) One of these ships has been on display between the Boeing 747 and the French Concorde at the Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia

OK...
What warbird?
1) In the main conflict where it was used, it was used by both sides.
2) Its wings could be folded back.

6) There have been modern reproductions available as plans, kits and certified aircraft - in 75% size.

Almost sounds like a Mustang. There are companies that make 75% versions of it and I know it was flown by both the allies and Luftwaffe, crashed versions that were repaired/rebuilt in the later case.
