The book is what I posted with a picture of the cover at the beginning, Scale Airplane Drawings published by Model Airplane News,. I like it because it has dozens of different airplanes with a few pages of coverage on each plane,. According to the book I am going with a late model DVIII - EV 238/18 color scheme for a plane built for Ernst Udet.

I let the green latex dry overnite, than masked off the wings for the black crosses, I am using Rostoleum black spray paint , I gues for scale it should be painted with a brush, but I like the neater appearance of the spray painted crosses.

Busa dvii is a great flying airplane, I have had two before which I sold off, I am on my third and this time I am keeping it, I fly mine with a us41 and a 20x8 prop, like I say it is one of the best wwi biplanes out of all the ones I have had, I like how it just comes in for a near perfect landing without trying, it sure makes me look good behind the sticks..

Well folks this project has been on hold couple months.. I had been waiting on a 1/3 scale cowl I had ordered from AZM in January and lozenge covering ordered in Feb.. All I have been getting is "it well be shipped this week", enough of this nonsense, I have had the charges taken back on my M/C card and ordered the stuff from Wildmanngraphics.com, talked to them on the phone couple days ago and sounds like they can deliver the stuff in a few days, nice to have located another supplier. I had hoped to have had the D8 ready for a test flight allready.
In the meantime I made some wing screws to hold the down the two front ply sheeting over the cowl and mounted the G-62 engine and servos along with the linkage...

Close up on the front ply cowl covers and wing screws.. The ply is sprayed with green latex and covered with Model Masters semi-gloss spray which has not dried when the picture was taken. The frame has got a light spray of geen as well so it does not show through the lozenge fabric to much.

Hey rcwarbirdbuilder,
I see you finished your DVIII and now have it for sale. I saw your maiden flight, looks great! I have my fuse framed up and have installed the removable tail features. I do have some questions .
1. How did you do the firewall? I see in your pics that you appear to mount the G-62 flat without the "motor box" as shown on the plans. I have a GT-80 to go on mine and will need to recess the engine box to get the proper prop clearance.
2. Did you use 1/32 ply for the cowl cheeks? I want to use 3/32 balsa.
3. I remembered what happened to you with the wing struts and measured mine. Good catch because mine measures out to 14 1/2" from the center line.
4. I don't have the materials to make the strut eyelets....ordered some eyelets from Balsa USA. Comments please.
5. Will post pics this weekend (working overtime till further notice [:@])

I mounted the G-62 direct to the firewall made of (2) 1/4" ply laminated, you can make a square engine box with the dept you want and glue it direct to the firewall with no problem, use some 3/4" sq. hardwood and epoxie it at the box base where it attaches to the firewall for reinforcement,,, I used 3/32" balsa for the cowl cheeks as well since I did not have enough thin ply, it makes no difference it is all covered in fabric anyway. I don't follow you on the strut eyelets?.. The plane flys good and it does not have a tendincy to flip like some ww1 airplanes on landing, .

The plans called for metal eyelets that are soldered to the cabane wires that the wing screw goes through to attach the wing to the cabane wire. You made yours. I got some from Balsa USA. They use them on their kits. I see you did not build the sub wing for the landing gear. Preference? Is the GT 80 too big?

Ok here we go. Pic 1 is the fuse so far. Pic 2 shows where 3 pieces of 3/8" hardwood are glued to the fuse side for the correct front cabane location. Pic 3 shows my GT-80 and where I'll have to mount the front cabane hardwood pieces (which is where the plans show it). What I was trying to say earlier was "solder lugs" (not eyelets) that Balsa USA sells to use to attach the cabanes to the wing. Sorry for the confusion. Next I'll build the engine box and finish the fuse...then on to forming the wire!
