Hi Muggenkidd. I think everyone who attended the event had a great time. The 5 of us (5 horsemen of the apocalypse) from Lubbock really enjoyed all the event had to offer. You have a really great group of guys up there that made this thing all it could be and then some!
We are really looking forward to you all coming again to Lubbock to fly with us. We had about 30 pilots last year and this year we're shooting for 50. Peter Fritshe will be joining us from Allen, Tx and hopefully 1 or two more from his area. We're hoping for more Oklahoma Pilots as well. Look forward to seeing you.

What a great event put on by great people who did a great job. So glad the weather cooperated. It is a great place to practice belly landings. Will surely be back next year

Attention all Warbirds Over Oklahoma pilots:
Scramble! Scramble! Scramble!

Couldn’t resist this after the Scramble! Scramble! Scramble!

The Lubbock, TX guys, AKA, The 5 horsemen of the apocalypse are hosting the West Texas Warbirds Fly-in scheduled for August 6-8, 2010 in Abernathy, TX. They requested we scramble with them.

Mission Plan:

Depart Oklahoma City area on or before 08-06-2010 on a Southwest heading stopping for required fuel and relief only. Depending on winds aloft we should arrive in 8.0 hours + or – 1 hour depending on departure delays at required stops. If planning on formation, or in trail travel, a departure briefing will be required before leaving Oklahoma Airspace. This is a volunteer mission, but participation and coordination would lead to a successful mission. [8D]

Looking forward to our next flights,

Thank you all for making WARBIRDS OVER OKLAHOMA 2010 a success.

Thanks,

Steve Keesey

This was one the best events I have attended Bill & Sharon Holland are fantastic. The weather forecasts did look awful, but Bill & his crew's positive attitude made the event worth attending. Then the weather god smiled on us and it was truly "Another Fine Day at the Flying Field" . There were some many beautiful airplanes on display and flying. I was really surprised and humbled when I heard that my Fokker D VII won the Pilots Choice award. All I can say is Thanks to all who thought it was worthy of your vote.

Looking forward to next year

Keep'em Flyin'

HAHAHAHAHA! Thanks for that, Steve!

Have you heard from RCKen on when he plans to finish and upload his article about Warbirds Over Oklahoma on the RCU Magazine side. I've been waiting for him to finish, but he must be busy or something?!? Imagine that... Anyway, lets put the heat on him, huh.

Looking forward to a great time in August.

Thanks for the support. As for the date, there are several war bird events starting up in Oklahoma, and others in nearby states [sm=thumbs_up.gif], including non-warbird events that are in close date proximity to this event. Full scale traffic at the airport picks up after May, and a change in the event date may cause a conflict with Bill’s travel schedule, which might cause a loss of his great help as Flight Line Officer, not to mention his help with planning the event.

As mentioned, I did start this event to honor our military service members, and my full scale supporter Dr. Brent Hisey with Miss America, and the Oklahoma Museum of Flying have reserved this date for Warbirds. Starting in May their air show schedule fills up. Brent has turned down full scale Armed Forces Day military event request in the past as he did again this year to honor my date in May.

The weather has been a concern the past two of the six years. In 2009 I had to push the event to the rain date the following Saturday. With the complexity of conducting this event at the airport a rain date is not feasible.

I want to thank all who attended and made this event the success it was; I also want to thank the entire Warbird Team. Mostly people hear my name or Bill’s, but there are many others who made this event possible.

Harold,

I haven't forgot your book. I'm just slow and will get it mailed ASAP. Believe it or not, I just finished it last week with everything going on at work and Memorial Day "stuff" going on. I do appreciate you letting me read it. It's in good hands and will be flying home soon! Once again, thanks.

Thanks Howard hope you enjoyed it I know I did. We are having a RCfly in at the Houston airport Houston,MO this Sunday sure wish you were able to bring the 182 and fly it, it would be a BIGHIT.. I am working on the building of a Giant size Bell 206 like the little one I had down there. Plan to fly it at the show next year in El Reno.

Take Care.

I'm at Guthrie, OK this weekend and enjoying a warm but breezy two days of giant scale flying at a great site. Maybe I can make it up north your way next year? I'll be at Bartlesville, OK in two weeks for their IMAA fly-in at Copan Lake. Brought my Bearcat to Guthrie this weekend to give the poor Cessna a breather! She's been run hard and put away wet for about a month.

Howard,

Good to see you again this weekend. Once again I was behind the power curve with my P-40, so I was not able to fly in the IMAA event this weekend, but it flew today.

The plane came in at 28 lbs, powered by a DA-50 developing 25 lbs of thrust. First two attempted take-offs ended on the nose as soon as power was applied. Since the plane taxied better in high rate, 130% servo travel instead of it’s low rate setting of 50% servo travel, I decided to start at full aft elevator. As power came in I allowed the plane to accelerate while relaxing aft elevator. Once it was on the roll, at near zero elevator input it transitioned to a nice flight level attitude. By this time full power was in and it flew off of the ground cleanly.

Balanced at 4 inches aft of the leading edge at the fuselage as Iron Bay had recommended, gear retracted in the inverted position I might add, it balanced level. When gear was extended I was quite nose heavy, so as soon as it cleared the runway I selected gear up. At this point it only took slight down elevator trim, and a touch of left aileron trim to fly hands off.

Now was my gear and flap extension test. First I applied gear down. No major change except for the expected nose heavy change. However when I applied the first 15 degrees of flaps it almost was back in trim. Last stage of flaps, now 30 degrees it created enough pitch up that it now was back in full trim.

Retracted both gear and flaps, made one low pass, and set up for my first landing approach. With ¼ to ½ throttle the plane set up on a nice stable approach with no adverse effect. All in all with a 45 to 90 degree variable crosswind at 10 MPH the plane touched down slightly crabbed, but smooth.

Vary enjoyable flight with one fine bird. This one is a keeper.

Looking forward to many more flights.

Awesome Steve! Good to see a P-40 flyin' around. Seems there aren't too many of these flying anywhere and I can't figure out why! You need to fly the plane a bit more and wear it in. Looks as if you touched down so lightly it probably doesn't count as a landing:-) Where did you get off to at Guthrie? First, you were there. Then, you were gone!

Thanks Mugenkidd and Howard.

Jacob and I ran ourselves down, and he was ready to go home. He was asleep as soon I hit the road. Howard, where is your field in Sallisaw? I travel that direction from time. Maybe one day I can catch you there. Mugenkidd, we need to fly a little formation with the Mustang and P-40.

The plane does fly great. Jim Ellis said it was a good flyer and he was right.
