Anyone recognize this Messerschmidt?
I picked up this Messerschmidt from a guy in my club. It is all electric (but I believe it may be a glow conversion). It has retracts by they may have been added later. The cowl has some cracks in it and I will probably eventually have to replace it. I would like to know who makes the model if anyone is familiar with it. I would appreciate any help....

If it is an EZ Models, it looks like they are not made anymore. Is this correct? Any ideas where I could find another cowl?

Hey, that cowl would be easy to fix.
Clean it good with alcohol or such. Take the cracks back together with masking tape on the outside. You can buy fiberglass in 1" wide strips. Two ounce would be about right. I use epoxy surfacing resin since it is already brushing consistency. Paint the inside where the fiberglass strip will go and lay in the strip. You can probably do two cracks per mix.
Glass cloth strips and epoxy are easy to find and cheaper than a replacement cowl. And you'll have enough left over to fix it again and again and again. And to reinforce the cowl where the screws hold it on.

I would add, Clean it then sand the the area with 80 - 100 grit before you clean it again. The roughness will make a better bonding surface.

Thanks for all the help! I will probably try to repair it...looks easy enough. However, I have talked to the folks @ Fiberglass Specialties and they do have the cowls that will fit the model, however they are not painted, so I would have to match the paint. If the repair doesn't do well, I will order the new one.

That kit was one of the few EZ kits that had that cheap ABS cowl, Most guys would coat the inside with fiberglass right out of the box.
Some of there other kits had this indestructible plastic moulded one,, those would last for ever.
You have a classic there
p.s.
Those kits came ready to install the retracts, you had to buy the retracts separately though, the came with a fixed gear block and wire gear

I actually like the looks of the plane....one of the guys at our field who normally flies glow was trying to learn how to do a 40 size electric plane and basically gave up on it. Gave it to me, so I'm trying to get it flight ready. He was using a five cell LIPO that I believe had a bad cell...a little TLC (and a couple of parts here and there) and it should be good as new.

Not a Messerschmidt, a FW-190 (Folke Wulf 190); not sure what kit.

Hate to be a neurotic silly ninny here, but mispronunciation and spelling of Focke Wolf are a pet peeve of mine:

Maybe I've been working in a hobby shop too long; words like Fatuba (Futaba) and Tamaiya (Tamiya) also get to me.

I had two of those planes a decade ago and got the fiber specialties cowl back when the company was Stan's Fiber Specialties and they were awesome. I had to cut the front out (easy with a dremel or regular drill) and buy two cans of cheap rattle-can paint from wally-world and it was ready to go. They crashed good too....

Are you sure you're not thinking of Stan's Fiber Tech?

Stan made some great products, And is a great guy
I currently have a cowl and wheel pants from him on my Midwest Extra,
Back in the day He and I talked about him make cowls for the Jemco line of warbirds, but that never materialized (too few kits around),
The floats he made were great too
I just don't think he was ever associated with Fiberglass Specialties,,I could be wrong.
