NW Indiana Warbird Day: Sat, July 17 2010, BEST Warbird Event within 100 miles!
About 10 days away, this is one of 2 events that I try to make it too every year. Turnouts are usually quite large, ALL warbirds allowed: big, small, gas powered, electric powered, and everything in between.
About 10 miles SE of Gary, Indiana, the Midwest Sundowners have a VERY long and wide, well maintained grass runway, surrounded by open farmland (no obstacles).
They have very a very knowledgable staff, put on a EXCELLENT full course lunch, even includes beverages and deserts (for donation: YOU choose price), and since they have been doing this for YEARS, no wait: DECADES, they run a very professional event.
Landing fees? We don't need no stinkin' landing fees, why should we charge YOU to bring your beautiful warbirds to our flying site? Ditto on parking fees. In fact, there are NO fees of any kind. You only pay for your lunch, and only if you want it, and only as much as you want to pay.

Jim, I went last year with my buddy and his camper on friday afternoon. There is no electric at the site, so you would need a generator. It was vey quiet though and was a great weekend. Am on vacation so unfortunately will not be able to attend this year. Great event though.

Weather forecast looking GOOD, at this point. On the warm side (but we've had worse/ hotter), slight chance of rain, winds under 10 mph.
Will be bringing my electric powered Top Flite P-51D "SHOO SHOO BABY", electric powered VQ Me-108, and Saito 1.00 powered Top Flite P-47D "My Baby", with dual Vortac bomb drops.
In order to have an ground taget for my P-47's bombs, I am also hopefully bringing a 30" long R/C tank (just bought it on eBay, not yet delivered, but should be by Friday).

Hey Corsair Jock, I thought Shoo Shoo Baby was a silver B-17?

Note that my Mustang even has the dorsal fin removed, as they were non-existant on the early P-51Ds, including the one flown by Lt. Howell.

A two or three day event would be great ! it would give us time to fly more sorties. We would probably need more tanks though.

Hey CorsairJock,
PMAC Field, England - Ex Royal Navy Commander Caractacus Potts was seen emerging from the woods at the infamous PMAC field dragging what looked to be a wing tank discarded by one of our valiant flyers during the war. Probably just before engaging enemy aircraft as was standard practice. "Wing Tanks" are still turning up in farmers fields or patches of woodlands where they have sat since being discarded. Commander Potts is known for creating wondrous vehicles by combining parts ex-Gran Prix racing cars with Boats and planes to the delight of the locals. It's rumored the his inventions have been used in secret missions to free children and villages from the clutches of evil.
When asked about the wing tank, Commander Potts indicated that those days were long over for him and he would contact retired RAF Pilot and good friend Ponsoby Britt O.B.E. to see if the tank could be restored and used to re-equip a warbird in need of such a tank. Commander Potts was sure that Ponsoby knew who to contact at the Shuttleworth Collection and the wing tank would be patrolling the skies very soon.

Drop me a PM with a shipping address and I'll pop the tank in the mail.....
