T/F P40 Correct way to balance it Retracts up or down?
I have finished a T/F P40 would like for someone that has successfully flown it to tell me how you balance it.With the gear up or down?T/F says in instruction book to balance it with gear down.I think if I do that when the gear comes up it will be tail heavy in flight. The one I have built is gold edition with Robart retracts,tires,struts,flaps,O.S. 120 4S.I understand that this bird could be tricky to fly and just don't want to make it any hardier on myself. Thank for any help! Frank P.S. the plane weights in at 9 1/2 pounds at this time.

As the other two replies say, balance with the gear retracted. I just finished my TF P40 and had 3 successful test flights. This plane makes me nervous, but I enjoy it.

So Far, I agree with all the above......upside down with retracts in stowed position. Where in Indiana are you? Some really great pilots in Indy and south.

I'm going to add something here, Not only Balance it upside down with the Gear up, fuel tank empty, BUT also move the CG forward 1" from the factory location. I found on Both of my P-40's the "factory" CG is too far aft.
