Then Gulliows , Top Flight Red Box , Pica 1/6 scale P40 , Balsa Products P40, 2 VQ P40ties , CMP 73'' P40 , FMS EPO P40 , LX 79'' EPO P40 I know i missed a few lol . I just love the plane and its history !! I just knew you would be in Lou :D How are you doing mate? |

ORIGINAL: P-40 DRIVER One of the things that causes problem in the TF P-40 is that there is so much rollcoupling that if you trim the rudder for high power, it will be out of trim and roll when you pull the power off ie landing. |

ORIGINAL: P-40 DRIVER Long nose, alot of dihedral and a small tail does make it interesting. Did you try a mix to help with roll coupling or just ride it out with your thumbs. I think using the Curtiss fix of lengthing the fuselage would not be bad idea and bring the dihedral down to 4 degrees would help also. A little more washout would help as well. I think the main lesson with the P-40 was keep it away from a stall at all costs. Mine was very nose heavy and still had a vicious stall. |

I had a TF P40 I aquired back in 2000. It had a OS FS120 pumper in it and flew quite well, had a JR gyro on rudder that I had slaved to the retracts, retracts up gyro @ zero gain. Worked well.
It was very light, 9 1/2lbs Broke the wing after a forced dead stick into some rough stuff, built a new wing but only lasted 2 flights, spun in doing some stall tests. Bugger! Have a 96" Model Design version to build. Glass fuz, foam core wing and build up tail feathers. 3W-75 in the nose. Essentially it is a Ziroli. |

ORIGINAL: Lifer My first P-40 was a Cox control-line plane about 1968, or so. Current P-40's are both Top Flite ARF's. The smaller one has the engine out and has been in the hands of a guy in Illinois for 4 months claiming it cannot be fixed. The bigger one remains a ''Hangar Queen'' til the weather cools down a bit around here. I don't mind a little roll couple from the rudder. I have lost ailerons on a plane or two and it's good to know I can still get it home. Sign me up, too! I think I can afford the membership dues! |

ORIGINAL: radfordc unfortunately a bad RX switch put an end to my P-40 after about a dozen flights or so. Unfortuately there is no easy way to test a switch except to swap them out when they get some milage on them. Dual batteries in a .60 size plane maybe a bit much, but dual switches, I could see. A five cell pack with dual leads, dual switches and dual leads going into the receiver. |

I can testify that the TF.60 size arf is well behaved and I had some real hairy cross wind landings with her. One took about 5 approachs before getting down and then the landing gear collapsed and flipped on her back and nothing broke, save the cowl took a beating from sliding on her chin. Hi All P-40 fans,
Own one CMP P-40 a while back and just now got into it again with a ESM 50cc P-40.. Going to power it with a RCGF 55cc on a caniter setup as there is plenty of room for it. Got almost everything I need except the retracts and the spinner. Was going for the electric but no one seem to have them in stock so I might just go with the air instead.. Any thoughts? I'd like to join. I've always liked P-40's. I currently have a Top Flite Giant Scale with a DA 50 that I have been flying on and off for the past 18 months. It's easy enough to handle in the air, but a bit of a handful on the ground.
