Solo props????
Has anyone used the Solo adjustable props? I am wondering about the efficiency of the actual blades (airfoil design).....I tend to like the Menz airfoil for my Warbirds......just wontering if the Solo blades work well or would be better suited for mixing paint:D....

RE: Solo props????
Sure would like to know the answer to that....

RE: Solo props????
I bought one with the 16 & 18" blades. The variable pitch center section is poorly balances, so I have not been able to use it. So far I am not impressed after spending $$$! But it looks great.

RE: Solo props????
I have had excellent results with Solo Props.
1. SkyShark R/C Giant P40 24 lbs. 22" 3 blade with SteveNeu Electric BAM Motor 4400 Watts! 105mph. 2. Top Flight Giant P51 23lbs 24" 4 blade with SteveNeu Elecrric BAM Motor 5300 Watts 115mph Carl is great to work with and I used both props right out of the box. Scott Lake Havasu, AZ |
RE: Solo props????
A freind used a 2 blade version, on a Hostettler Stinson with good results, and he is now using the 3 blade version on his Ziroli Stuka, with good results.

RE: Solo props????
I'm using a three blade 20" Soloprop on a 1:6 scale p-40 at low rpm with good results, but I don't have anything to compare with apart from APC 17x10 Pattern with at higher rpm power system on the same plane. Mine's well balanced as long as the hub halves are tightened perfectly evenly.

I'm using the round tip blades. They look very nice on the plane.

RE: Solo props????
is there a way to put your own spinner over the prop hub

The standard Soloprop adapter fits the bolt that comes with Dave Brown and TruTurn spinners (10-32 bolt or whatever it's called). I made a custom spinner for my plane where the spinner cone is secured with six bolts around the backplate like in the picture I attached.

Scott Bahde please remind me what pitch setting you like best on your Solo prop 4 blader for the TF P-51 with the Neu Motor.

RE: Solo props????
I thought you need less RPM with a 4 bladed propeller (!??).
You are right about the Prop size, the P-47D Razorback had an Curtis Electric C542S with 13 foot diameter – this would be on a 80 inch (1:6 scale) a 24 inch airscrew. By searching about the hubs and 4 blades I came across of a interesting website… [link=http://www.warbirdpropdrives.com/18422.html]here is the link[/link] Happy landings[sm=thumbup.gif] G-Pete |

Below are some pics of my Byron 80"P-47 with a 26" scale "static" prop. Warbird Prop Drives has been working on this system for several years. Seems to have several issues, not the least being weight. If he ever gets it working, it would be a nice option on a scale bird. Do search on RCU and you may be able to bring the older threads on it. have not heard much lately. |
RE: Solo props????
Remember the old Byro-drive belt reduction system? I wonder if something like that could still work [:-]
Too bad RCV engines are so small, the SP version is 2:1 ratio. Can you imagine a 50cc RCV motor?......:D Big props, slow rpm.... its just natural! CC |
