Sorry no pictures of the Elevator setup. I had the servo up in the fuse just behind the leading edge of the wing. I had a pushrod running straight (with guides) back to an internal control horn. I had the two elevators joined with a piano wire with 90 degree bends epoxied into the elevators. It was a bit tight with my hands, but I had all the controls inside the fuse.

Losing a plane can be demoralizing...its the time and money and most of it gone. I lost one about two months ago. Snapped twice on base leg and went into the asphalt. Cracked the receiver, smashed the battery, broke up the servos in the fuse. The spinner was pancaked, but the engine survived!

Yesterday...

Thought I had checked everything...ended up I took of with ailerons and elevator both on high rate. The wind was calm but I didn't get the flaps down and it nosed over on landing, ground up the cowl. Second flight went well except the landing angle was too steep. Tore out LH gear. Plane still in one piece will be ready to fly next weekend.

Hoping to get the ESM Zero ready to maiden soon. It has some very nice Sierra retracts and a home made retractable tail wheel.

Yeah its really tough to lose a great flying plane to a servo screw or something so small. I felt so stupid for crashing a beauty over such a tiny over site. That is the way it goes though... I guess its like being in high school, and falling in love with a girl on vacation..that you will never see again ! hahahahahahahahah

you just got to move on ! she sure was purty though ;)

If you were really pleased with its flying characteristics, I'd consider getting another one...I've lost a nice looking woman a time or two, but I have a really hot one right now. All planes require maintenance, why not get one you enjoy?

I have a CMP also haven't been able to post any pictures because I only have my phone. Corsair 183 believe this or not.. But at one time my buddy was the guy in charge of the zero fliers in the old Byron show. I went over to his house and showed him the carnage..he dug thru his collection of stuff and gave me a bunch of parts that were seconds..that would have been for zeros in the shows.. A fuse with some bubbles in the glass, a set of wings without landing gear blocks.. no canopy cut out.. (I hear those are rare) I got quite a few scratch and dent pieces.. now to just get the momentum to finish some airplanes..

After some time I finally finished my CMP Zero 50 cc. Today I made the first rolling. The weight with DLE 55 and half of the fuel tank is 10500 g (23.15 pounds). it's good to see interest in this plane still. i built one a long long time ago, still have it. i removed the front lg mount on mine and replaced it with a maple one. i had a garage sale set of century jets and put them in it, and for power i decided that if i had to add nose wt i would add as much usfull wt i could, sounds good right, i had a G-62 w nothing to do. so in it went. well i put 26 flights on it and it flew great but on flight 27 one of the gears would not come down. so i put them both up and landed this brick on the belly. i went in and dremeled away some of the material in the camb and flew again. this time that retract came down but the other stayed up. this happen 4 more times before i moved on to other planes. since then i went all electric, so the son wants to electrify it but first i have two problems. those pesky Gear will have to go back to century jet for tweeking, and lastly the cowel has lots of holes in it due to the tight fit of the G-62.

anyone find a soarce for canopies? every time i took it to a flyin some one would come up to me and ask if i knew of a source. aperently they are pretty brittle.

You might try Vic at VicRC.com. He makes canopies for Jerry Bates and other scratch builders from plans. I just bought a canopy from him for a Jerry Bates Nakajima KI-43 and I think he my bey able to help you with your canopy need.

CMP 82 inch Zero
 

I've been working on my CMP zero since Dec. 27 2017...Hey almost done! About 34 oz lead in the nose with Moki 2.1. The 2.1 is a little less than four ounces heavier than the 1.8. But there are some subtle differences so I spent many hours tweaking the installation. Will try to post a pic before Christmas.

Sounds nice looking forward to your pic. I too have been working on my CMP Zero. I am glassing the now and will paint it in the colors or the early Zeros 1941 Zeros.
