its the same motor Im running with an 18x12 prop. The specs say it can turn a 22x12 or 24x10. Thats too much prop for this motor and will blow a magnet as some ppl have stated in the reviews of it. If you keep the prop size to 18" diameter or below, even with a high pitch, you'll be fine.
For an 8s setup, you could use an 18x12 prop or a 15.75x13 3 blade.
Comparison same motor static full throttle:
10s on 18x12 = 104mph
8s on 18x12 = 83mph....still very respectable

10s on 15.75x13x3 = 113mph
8s on 15.75x13x3 = 90mph
Note: a 3 blade will act similarly to a larger diameter lower pitch 2 blade...so effectively a 17x12 2 blade.
Since the dimater is smaller then the 18x12 in the first set, your likely to get a little more rpms thus the numbers are still pretty close to accurate....this assume the prop is loading the motor up enough tog et to peak power.
On my SK 6364-230, the 18x12 is giving me about 2500 watts on 10s even though the motor is rated for 3200 watts. 2500 is more then enough, so even on 8s, you'd be over scale speed.

The engine seems inexpensive for the application , I am assuming the cost will run up in the battery , speed controls ect ?

K , I just noticed all the links and the cost . I dont know if you used the hobby king parts or not but the prices makes the e-conversion very very reasonable !!!
I figured one battery pack alone would run me in the $300 range !!!
That is one great site if the goods deliver in performance !!!

My CMP Bf-109 flew well at WARBIRDS OVER IOWA held at my local club field. The weight of the 109 was helpful as winds gusted to over 20mph. Even with the wind I used flaps to land or the 109 would refuse to slow for landing. The Sierra gear looks small, but it sure absorbs the landings without complaint. Here's a photo of it flying at the event.

yes I did use the hobbycity parts in mine. 1x turnigy SK 6364-230kv motor, 1x 100 sentilion HV 5-12s esc, 2x 5s flightmax 5000mah 25c packs.

Hello there,

I was warned. However during testing the engine 9400 revs with the os ax 120 with a 16x8 prop, the backplate exploded and totally desintegrated. The parts made 4 inch holes in the field. Lucky no one got hurt. Now I know again why not to be in the path of a turning prop. So again, do not use the supplied spinner. They are dangerous.
I now placed the fliteskin one. Fits exactly, but at a cost. $ 125 to be exact. But worth every dollar. Attach pictures didn't work today, but I'll try again later.

Yup...I had that happen on the 2nd flight attempt and it destroyed the backplate, spinner, and took out the prop. Good to know the Fliteskin fits right. I got the Dave Platt one and it fits up pretty good.

Regarding the original nylon spinner backplate, what about boiling it before using for first time?.

This is not a joke but a tip used by CL fliers when I was a boy: when they received new nylon propellers and due they didn't know for how long they had been stored, they boiled the propellers in a pan with water -suspended and without touching the wall, of course- so the nylon got its humidity level again and became far more flexible and durable.

I remembered about it as if you used the propellers as received they broke as glass when exceding certain regimes.

I for sure will give a try to mine and will test with all possible cares for if after all it still breaks loose.

Hi All

Somewhere in the early posts I have pics of the CMP spinner with my aluminum back plate I turned for it. It works. Or check youtube for "CMP 109" . I put my first flight on there.

But i stay clear of all my spinning parts on any plane. And keep them away from others as well. .Always

Thats a very good looking spinner. Down side is that its more than 1/2 the price of the whole airframe!

The muffler is the "Slimline Inverted Pitts for Thunder Tiger 120". I got the tip on this forum, and it fits perfectly. No drilling or sanding needed. I can also assure; perfect sound with the OS 120 AX. Turns the 16x8 at apox 9400 revs after just a few tanks.

Well, that is the first muffler I tried with my 120 ! The motor would not tune and with various other problems, I decided it was the muffler. Maybe, all the while, it was a dud motor.

The revenge of a tree.

On the maiden, right after lift off, the plane turned shaply to the left, right in the direction of a row of trees. I pulled up sharply, turning wasn't possible anymore. The plane just made it, but just above the trees it stalled. It landed undamaged, still with a turning prop on top of the tree. The problem. it's a 100 feet tree. After a few hours and many abandoned ideas, panic struck. The planes was loades with expensive parts. As a last resort, I had to take a saw, and began to saw the tree. After 1 hour, the tree gave way. It tilted at first, and the plane came down. It came down flat, and the only damage seemed the right landing gear wich went through the wing. But then, the revenge of the tree. Before I could reach the plane. The tree felt to the ground, with all its tons of weight hitting the plane. A total loss. In my sadness I didn't make pictures, but believe me, it's a totall loss. maybe I can get enough courage, and buy a new one, but for the time being I don't.

Hi,

Stumbled on this thread and it's really interesting to see how scale this CMP ARF can be made. Just wonder if anyone has ever thought of converting the plane to a BF109-H version. A couple of H versions did fly over france but was later pulled out of production/service due to problems in wing fluter.
Any how, the H version has a wide wheel-base and big wing, so should cure all nasty landing habits? plus the wing mod is probably just adding in a centre section?

here're some pics. I've a few actual dimensioned blueprints of the BF109.

I was looking at the new pic's of the CMP advertisement and that ugly spinner that they have out on it. I was just wondering if there would be any intrest in a scale spinner for it in the $80 range? I have spinners for 2 other size me 109's . The start up cost is the worst for a new spinner and i would have to have about 10 people wanting one before I could get one made...

As all the specially made components like the carbon push-rods, main gear, tail wheel, spinner, cowl, exhaust etc. have survived the tree, I've gathered the left over self confidence, and ordered a new plane. I'll try again. Now with all these parts available, the building time should be shortened considerably. We'll see.

Hey Schummie, did you have to cut the slots for the prop on the spinner or did it come pre-cut?

Good luck with the new plane. Sounds like a bout of horrible luck with that tree.

I had to cut the slots myself. Tricky job though! However you have the oportunity to use a three blade prop.
