RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
I've got the engine mounted and the ignition modual and batteries in place. Even got the cowling mounted except for the exhaust cut out which will be bigger than I thought. I used the kit push rods/tubes and I think they are inadiquate. Need to try something else.

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Looking good buddy ! question : what is the measurement from the center line of your engine to the top of the head ? your cut out of the cowl looks pretty good and clean so far post some pic after you get the exhaust hooked up , I'm considering A RCGF and was wondering what it compares to dimension wise I'm trying to minimize cutting the cowl as much as possible, but your set up looks pretty good ! I may go a similar route

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
The distance from center line of engine to top of head is 4.5". Got the Robart retracts delivered today and started installing. Looks like they will work fine. I would not have used this conversion, but the price was right and I needed the weight up front. I have 3 RCGF engines and they run good except all the carbs gave me trouble. If you get one, disassemble the carb and clean it out first thing. I don't think they clear not the manufacturing debre very well.

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
I've made some progress. Gear is installed and wheel wells sheeted. Total weight 14 lb 2 oz. CG is right at 140mm back.

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Looking good ! are you using the gear doors ? I'm still stuck on the smaller inner gear doors I've got it pretty much set, but getting the proper spring tension on the actuating lever is driving me nuts ! either the spring is to big or to tight or to small to hard or to soft ! I almost got it so hopefully sometime soon I'll get it tweaked to were I want it and can move on to the cool split flaps you've laid out
what servo did you use for the flap linkage ? |
RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
I'm using Futuba 3004s for the flaps. I'll cut the pipes on the exhaust to about 1" for a little cleaner look. I'll use thin aluminum for the gear doors. I'm not doing the small inner doors. Too much trouble for me. I'm planning on finishing out the wheel wells and glassing the area around the gear. Also going to use glass bedding gel to get a good wood to metal fit with the retracts. I have not decided re finish, paint scheme, weathering etc. May leave it until after the test flight.

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
don't forgot the flight report I'm dying to see what effect the flaps have on the approach

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Question to all : does anyone know of a offset strut that has a wire connection (not the robart ) the scissor on the strut on the robart is the wrong placement for the zero , so I have been looking for another option the seira looks the best but is crazy expensive, anyone have any suggestions ?

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Hi
I got this strut to my Zero 120 and I think it looks allright on my plane. 52 Euro is the price. http://www.der-schweighofer.at/publi...0/6152_300.jpg This is the shop where I order it from. [link]http://www.der-schweighofer.at/artikel/46947/modellsport?query=Federbeine+gebogen+[/link] Keep on building! |
RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
hi,
looks nice Gezus. What is the maximum wheel size for those oleos? |
RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
In my plane the wheels are about 87 mm.
I post some pictures on the struts on my CMP 120 Zero. This is just some testing that I do before I do the right thing. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/6...8647402677.jpg http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/229...8677389242.jpg http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/3...8657378245.jpg |
RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Gezuz: looks good and very scale. I'm using Robart struts so can't really do the seperate lower gear door. I've glassed the area around the gear and painted and mounted the gear. Gear doors are not as scale but should do. I'm concerned about the cg still. Every thing is mounted as far forward as possible. Balances at 140 mm back from the leading edge at the fusilage. However 30% of the cord is about 120 mm. Instructions say 145 to 152 mm. I don't buy that. I think I will add a heavy hub under the spinner and see how far forward that will get the cg. Hate to add the weight but its better than being tail heavy. "A nose heavy airplane flys poorly and a tail heavy airplane flys once".

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Hi guys....been away for a while finishing my Ziroli P-40 which was test flown a couple of weeks ago and has since logged 5 successful flights and now it's time to move on to my 2nd CMP 120 Zero. My plans are to 1) relocate and beef up the retract mounts for Robarts, 2) add split flaps, 3) remove all film covering and finish with glass cloth, 4) increase surface area of elevators and finally, 5) go gas!!! Regarding #5, my original thought was to install an Evo 26GX but they're just a bit too expensive for me...so now I am looking at a DLE-20. The physical size is nice and small and I compared the specs to a Saito FA-125 which is in my present Zero and also a Saito 150. the DLE is heavierr than the 125 (good), and it swings a bigger prop....but what I noticed most is the DLE-20 is rated for 2.5 HP compared to the 125's 2.2 and equal to the 150's 2.5 hp. I was concerned the Zero may be underpowered with a DLE-20, but based on the specs....it looks pretty darned good. Any thoughts or input on the DLE-20 for the CMP 120 Zero? Oh, and the DLE-20 can be had for approx. $250 plus shipping whereas the Evo is $447 plus shipping.

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Gezus that's exactly what I was looking for ! would be nice if I could translate the link to English as I would love to order a set but am not sure what or how to order.
L1 pilot good to have you back buddy I'm still puttsing away on mine but by all means please join us and make sure you post pic, as far as the DLE 20 you are correct its a nice fit dimension wise, like you I considered it as well and like you, felt it may be a little underpowered the last time I put one of these together it came in at slightly heavier then 14 lbs, and I ran a glow thunder tiger 120 rated at 3.5 HP swinging a 15x8 APC the engine set up with batteries weighted prop nut and exhaust weighed in at almost 50 Oz, I would be be very interested to hear someone else chime in on the subject |
RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Ok I found some kind of translation however Gezuz maybe you could tell me is the price listed for one or one set/pair left and right ? and does it take a wire connector if so what size ?
|
RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Zero-322....I never weighed my 120 Zero....should do that to also consider in the comparison and eventual choice of engine. I know how the Saito 125 and Saito 150 perform in this airframe...world of difference...and the DLE-20 specs are very close to the Saito 150. I'll likely give it a try, but will keep everyone posted.

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Just found some static thrust specs on the DLE-20...and an interesting comment...yup, I'm going wiht a DLE-20.
Prop Data: APC Sport 16x7 9000 RPM 14lbs. 7oz. JXF Beech 16x8 8300 13lbs. 10oz. JXF Beech 17x7 7970 13lbs. 12oz. SY 16x8 8500 13lbs. 5oz. SY 17x8N 8200 14lbs. 9oz. Interesting quote: "more power than a CRRC Pro 26 or a Saito 1.25" |
RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
What are the dimensions of the DLE 20 from the center line to the top of the head ? can't seem to find info on size anywhere

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Zero-322
The strut are "Eurokit" and you van download there catalogues here. [link]http://www.eurokitlucca.it/Old_Site/PDF/2009_Landing_Gears.pdf[/link] Ther you can find information on the strut. But the wire connector is size 5 mm and the price is for a pair. Try to seek the web and find a shop that is closer to your home. Keep up the good work. /Gezuz |
RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
1 Attachment(s)
Still working on the gear doors. With the aluminum doors attached above the sissors and no support down low they were too flimsy. So I was able to mount the bottom to the fork part below the sissors by drilling and tapping a 4-40 hole in the strut just below the sissors. Almost done except paint. Still have to mount cowling with mechine screw and blind nut instead of the wood screws and open up fueler access in cowl, cut off exhaust pipes, and add scale exhaust stacks. In real world cg info from those who have actually flown this plane? Here some pictures if I can get it to work.
