It looks like ESM is bringing the legendary Stringbag on the market.

Very cool. I like to play "sink the Italian and French fleet".

We had the cads for this only what seems a short while ago, now, we have the piccys of the first protoype. glad to say, ESM have stuck with the markings we suggested, we at YT have worked hard on this one, hope you all like it, model is 90"plus span,

A 90" biplane!! Very cool!!This thing will be BIG. A Zenoah GT-80 ought to fly this bird very scale. When is it do out? I'm very interested.

Not to side track this thread.... (BUT YOU ASKED :D;) and I love tanks! )

I belong to the TEXAS ARMOR ASSOCIATION an R/C TANK CLUB that utilize the 1.16 Tamiya Full Function Tanks with the Tamiya Battle Units/Systems for InfraRed Combat. We made a 7200 sqft outdoor battlefield complete with Running G Scale Train in WWII German Markings, BIG TUNNEL, Working Waterfall with running river that is over 100ft long, we have an industrial area, petroleum reserve area, a city/town, a Forward AIRFIELD, and hills, forrests, bridges, smoking buildings... WE have Axis vs Allies and mixed battles ONCE per month... it is so much fun.... you really get "INTO" the battles.. and it is great on really windy days where you can't fly...you can always battle with the tanks! Plus these tanks are so scale , and large but still can be put on most bookshelves as static models... or on your desk at work as a large file/paper weight! HAHAHA!

OK...

Here is the official answer... thanks to our friends across the pond ;)

The swordfish has been designed so that the wings come off in pairs, fully rigged. After examining how a lot of the scale guys do it this seemed the simplest answer to an awkward problem. Easier to transport complete left and right hand sections then just plug them into the body at the field, easy! The model is based on the Mk I W5856 'City of Leeds' from the Royal Navy Historic Flight...

what a beautiful bird. My 2 cents for this model would be:

- nicer wheels
- pilots in the cockpit

look forward to seeing this, would make a great addition to my P-6 :)

Kmot as usual you ask the right questions. It says it will be around the 22lb range and will fly off of a 180.....The magnum will definietly have more than enuff power.

Yes however it brought about the sinking of the Bismark and well .....[&o]

The BISMARCK saga impressed me as a youth back in 1963/64 the year I saw the movie and read the book "Sink the Bismark and ,well,had to accept that a lucky hit on a last ditch mission the ESM Stringbag squadren got thru[8D] and lucky too for the allied convoys operating in the Bismarcks range.

Well an aluminum color doped stringbag with British roundels, a radial, two open cockpits and a torpedo seems like the makings of a true War bird!

Below are the later pictures with the model completely finished as per kit. I've also included a close up CAD pic to show how the cockpit area is recessed for a more scale like appearance. ESM's mindset is to give the customer the basic canvas with the option to improve where needed to keep the prices more affordable. For instance the wheels on the Swordfish are standard ESM units, mainly because there just isn't another affordable option in China to replace them. The new larger Spit will have wheel wells in the wings to allow the fitment of more scale like units should the customer so wish, though it will be supplied with the usual standard wheels to keep costs low. As with all the ESM range it is a relatively simple task to gently rub back the factory scheme and repaint your model if you so wish.

We always get asked why can't we supply these models with the decals separate as before. There are 2 distinct types of modeller who buy these aircraft. Firstly we have the average guy who wants to build the kits as per the box label with the least amount of fuss or additional work. Secondly there's you guys who see this as the basis for your next project that you can embelish with your own enhancements to create a very believable scale rendition of the full size aircraft. Unfortunately the average guy who wants a quick build is the more prominent so we have to cater for him first and foremost. It is interesting how the ARTF market is perceived by modellers. If we sold kits that were pre-fabricated to almost the same level, maybe minus paint or possibly covering, then they would only appeal to the scale modeller who would be quite happy to add the extra detail needed to complete. On the other hand adding the ARTF acronym makes the same model more desirable to a larger audience who require a more comprehensive set of parts. I'm not moaning, just making an observation that occasionaly makes me smile! :D In ESM's case they walk a fine line between the upper market glass fibre scale models from Europe, and the shiney film semi-scale ARTF's that are so popular with the masses. It would've be an interesting excercise to see how these models would have been perceived had they been supplied unpainted as a kit without any obvious connection to the Far East.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't it the Swordfish attack on harboured shipping in Taranto, Italy that gave the Japanese the idea for Pearl Harbour? I seem to recall that the Japanese envoy was visiting the Italians when the attack happened, he was so impressed with the effectiveness and devastation caused by such basic aircraft that he went home and told his superiors.

Stunning tank site you guys have there Tomas, I'm impressed!

Wils' has a big collection of 1/16th and some 1/6th tanks whereas I sold my beloved Stuart Tank last year. I also make animatronic tank commanders for them, see the following link for videos...

I have my name and deposit on the list, anyone else aking a chance? Just saw this on the Top 10 bombers...can't say I agree but I would put it on h elist of the one in the top 10 ugliest.....:D I wonder if the magnum radial will lokk right under that cowl ring.
