Return Of the Depth Charge
Hi Guys,
Well, My new project is a depth charge.
It Uses a Preasure Plate to push down a light contact button
that allows electricity to flow to the electric Igniter, and when It hit's
The powder BOOOOM!!!! I'm Going to test it on my Wal-Mart sub.

You do realize (1) most clubs have a "no pyrotechnics" rule.
(2) setting off charges in lakes and streams is probably illegal (think fishing with dynamite).
(3) this is, of course, dangerous, and not recommended.

Yeah, I know but this is not exactly for a club. It's more for blowing
up my wal-mart submarine. I just got some mild explosive for the charges
but I'm running into detonator problems. Any Ideas?

Sorry, due to he legal and safety issues, I don't plan to touch this one with a 10 ft pole.
I would, in fact, strogly recommend against further R&D in this direction.
But, that is just my .02, ymmv.

What you do in your private space is your own business. I'm sure if you used this stuff on public property you'd go to jail!
The only thing I can think of, so that it always explodes on the point of impact, is to have it ignite when it hits the target.
You'd have to shoot something out at a decent rate, maybe with co2 cartridges. When the projectile hits it would cause a chemical reaction to ignite the explosive. Maybe when it hit it would cause a match head to rub up against something abrasive and that would do the trick.
Or maybe you could rig something up small that ran on a tripple A battery or something like that that would already be running before you put it in the water. All you'd have to do then is release it with a servo maybe.
Just some thoughts.

RE: Return Of the Depth Charge
I Just (yesterday) threw some bunker busters into the lake and
They went BOOOOOM! From The surface it sounds like 'pop'.
I threw my wally world sub in and I controled it and my brother threw
a dozon bunker busters in after it. I have to say my depth charge igniter
will have to be the good ole fassioned fuse.

The bad thing about explosives is you only get to make one mistake. What will you do if some rigged up detonator does not fire? Leave it for some kid to find or have it blow your hand off trying to retreive it? They closely watch shipments of explosive components (chlorates, chlorites, aluminum powder, Nitric and sulferic acid, touline, mercury, glycerine, ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, sulfer, smokeless and black powders, nitro methane, ether etc....) and other cool stuff you used to be able to use for your own "cherry bombs". Post 911 changed all of this and besides getting hurt you could end up in club fed.
If you persist in doing this use only commercially made waterproof fuse. Never make your own fuse. Be aware of static sparks, have a ground strap hooked to your person to prevent sparks when making your toys. Never get any of your "mixtures" on the threads of any cap or top or it can go off as you screw it together.
Better yet, don't do it.

RE: Return Of the Depth Charge
I made a hook and line to trawl for submarines today. It attaches to my mine-laying system, so I can carry either a simulated "depth-charge" or "mine field" but not both. I intend to drive over the submarine and hook it's diving planes and drag it back in to port. If it gets caught on weeds, I can release it and it has a short float to mark its spot so I can find it afterwards. If a submarine shows up at tomorrows battle, I'll test it out and let you know how it goes.
Due to safety reasons, I recommend that you cease your experiments with explosives.

RE: Return Of the Depth Charge
I used to have a line throwing gun on the stern of my ship.
It could throw a weight and treble hook over the bow or stern of a disabled ship, and I could then tow it in. If it was stuck in a mine string and too heavyly anchored, I could release the line and the loose end would float on a bobber.
Alternatively I could throw the weight off the boat, and drag it hoping to catch the submarine. If I thought that I had hooked one, I could releast the other end, and a second weight, and anchor the sub to the bottom.
Unfortunately our club members preferred to run destroyers rather than subs.[&:]

RE: Return Of the Depth Charge
I am running into the same thing. No subs showed up at the battle. I was talking with the skipper most likely to show up with a submarine, and the one he's working on is still having trouble. He's also focusing on his battleships (Iowa and Montana class), so it is unlikely that I will get to test my system. I don't have a way of launching the hook over a disabled ship, though one captain does. It was tested at the battle and we found that when it only has 4" of line due to a knot, it won't hook the ship. Once it had more line, it worked pretty good.
