Default RCV 120sp, muffler problem

Hello,

I am a very proud owner of an RCV 120, this motor has been a real gem for me.

I am having some issues with the muffler. I have lost 2 muffler "ends" in the last 4 flights. I am wondering if there are any other mufflers that will work. I would Prefer a one piece muffler if possible.

I even went so far as to drill holes in the end and run a wire through the muffler and the end piece so that it would not come off and the wire just broke through the wall of the muffler.

I will admit that I have been running byron %15 sport fuel (2 stroke) but I am not overheating and it was running good.

Thank you for the help.

I had the same problem. The muffler from an OS91 fourstroke is a direct replacement, and is one piece.

would I be better of with the OS 120 surpass muffler vs. the 90?

again I have the RCV 120 (if the 90 is the same size I am happy with your first suggestion)

Hi,

The RCV120SP does actually use the same size muffler as the OS91 FS, so this would be a fine replacement.

With regard to your RCV muffler, it is certainly possible that the fuel you are using is causing the engine to vibrate more, which leads to muffler failure. Muffler failure isn't unknown, but it shouldn't keep happenning.

Best regards

Another thing that will help is to support the body of the muffler with a strap to reduce the muffler movement. Otherwise the threads get eaten up in short order. This is especially true during the first few gallons of fuel before the engine has broken in.
