guys, i cant tell in the pics......
is the ezrun motor a 540 with fins, or a 380 finned out to a 540 size?
the truck over all seems pretty good. i would like to get one. i like my volcano epx pro, but for a 4x4 MT its kinda small.
i notice that the wheel hubs and some other parts are shared with the larger 1/8 8E's. should mean its pretty tough truck!
its also good to see that pic with a 5000mah hardcased lipo fitting nicely in the battery holder.
i think if i do get one, i will move the ESC onto the upper chassis plate. wont look as clean, but then it will get more airflow around it.

billymare: good to here that you wired the fan to the reciever. that way it will get a safe voltage whether you use 2s or 3s.
i cant wait till summer comes, i plan on seeing how my epx pro runs on 3s!

I believe it is a 380 finned out, but not for certain.

OK, just wondered. i have used my ezrun 35amp system in my losi strike and in a kyosho blizzard. so i do know that the specs are underrated.

For the guy's running them, have the 11.1 lipo's been working out OK. I would like to try this out but was wondering how it has worked long term, any broken drivetrain parts etc.

So I've been lurking this thread for a bit, and finally received my Caldera 10e today. This is my first rc truck in about 20 yrs., and my wife says im going through a mid-life crisis!!!! Anyhow, I received the older version as the ESCis in a different spot and the servo is the B7014. Are there any advantages to having the new configuration from the original? The new config looks to me like the rx is protected a bit more. Also, would you suggest that i put the rx in a balloon to help protect it from water damage (we get a lot of rain throughtout the year, and I would be using it on wet ground)?

its never a bad idea to stick your RX in a ballon. its cheap/easy insurance. RX are most likely to fail do to a spash of water in my experience(the open ports let even a tiny amount of water cause glitching)
im not sure on the diff between the old/newer versions.
if i buy one, i plan on putting the ESC on the upper chassis bar. i do this with most RC's as it will get a more airflow to cool it. just my opinion. nothing really wrong with the stock location.

We are new to the hobby. I got the Caldera 10E for my 8 yr old son. Yes we had the steering servo fail in the first 5 hours. B7014. Called redcat and shipped me a new one the next day. S3003. works good but the cable is a few inches shorter then the original.  It arrived 4 days later from Arizona to Chicago.

 Questions.....

Reciever in a balloon? How does that work with the cooling fan on top of the reciever?

Best battery upgrade?  We do not want more speed or power, just longer run time? Only get 10 to 15 mins on stock battery. Bummer...

Good economical rapid charger?

Note....

We crashed pretty good and ordered a new body on ebay. Most people only sell the Volcano bodies and they state they will fit.

The Volcano body does not fit correctly! It is about 1.5 inches shorter then the Caldera. Wheel openings will be un -centered.

It's the receiver in the balloon, not the ESC. The ESC has the fan to keep it cool.

I would imagine you would be looking for a higher capacity NiMH if you don't really want to increase speed. I'm sure that almost any of the cheap rapid charger would work for you. I've switched over to lipo for my caldera 10e.

I just purchased a Caldera 10E off of eBay for $189.99 (Free Shipping).

I'd like to change the body, tires, and shocks...

Anyone know what my options are?

Also, will this battery work?: http://www.hobbypartz.com/98p-30c-40...-hardcase.html

Finally, should I get an ESC Programmer? http://www.hobbypartz.com/led-progra...hless-esc.html

I've heard that the Caldera requires some tweaking on the brakes...

I'll have to check the Servo when it arrives to make sure I have the most updated S3003.

that lipo will work good. but for the same money there is a 5500mah 2s hardcased pack on ebay. search for akku.

the ESC programer for the ESC(i have the one for the ezrun version 35amp) is very handy. adjusting the brake force as well as the punch control is very nice.

i also had a question. on 2s will the caldera pull a wheely?

I just want to make sure this question didn't get lost in the mix....

I'd like to change the body, tires, and shocks...

Anyone know what my options are? Will the Traxxas Rustler body fit the Caldera 10E frame?

OK, I picked up the ESC Programmer and a 4000mAh LiPo for $29 (Shipped) from HobbyPartz!

Wheels/Tires...The Traxxas Jato rear wheels/tires ride on 12mm hexes. Will those fit the Caldera?

Or, can I take the Anaconda Tires (2.8") and mount them to the wheel of the Caldera?

Wait for it to die first... Does it always die in every old Caldera? If it does (this is not meant to be "stealing") I would call Redcat now and tell them that it broke, and by the time it really breaks (apparently in the first run) you'll have a replacement already on the way. But that's probably not the best idea, because if it doesn't actually break you've totally ripped Redcat off $20...
