will this BL setup be a good upgrade for the caldera 10E?

yes, it woudl be a decent upgrade combo.
but honestly, the stock ESC can push the truck pretty fast.
i would put that $80 into some 2s lipos and a charger if i were you.

you can run 9.6v on the stock motor/esc but you have to wire the esc's fan to run off the reciever's power and not off the esc. also, you may have to mod the battery tray to fit a 8cell pack.

i have the caldera's esc and motor in other rc's and have run them on 11.1v lipo. 9.6v nimh wont be an issue as long as you re-wire that stock fan.

the reciever has an open 3rd channel slot. you will need a plug end (the kind that are on servos) and take the black/red wire on the fan, cut it so it doesnt go to the esc anymore and wire it to the plug end and plug into the 3rd channel.
its not really that hard. you could probly find a "how to" with pics if you do a web search.

see, the stock ESC's fan is meant to run on 6v. thats fine when powering the esc with 7.2v nimh or 2s lipo. but when you up the voltage the esc give the fan too much voltage and it will burn out.
by powering the fan off the reciever, it will get a constant safe voltage no matter what battery you put in the truck.
you could also just buy a fan off ebay that comes pre-wired to plug into a reciever. then you just gotta figure out how to mount it on the ESC.

wait but can't i just plug it into the third slot without cutting the wire? sorry i got confused a bit.
i dont think so. the fan is hard-wired into the ESC. there is no plug to put into the reciever. the wires of the fan go right to the board of the ESC.
and the wires wouldnt be long enough.
