Default Newbie with a Redcat Volcano EPX Buring smell????

Just got my Redcat Volcano EPX which has a brushed motor and have used it a couple of times. Everything is completely stock on it. After using it for the 8 min. or so that the stock battery allows for it has a really hot electrical burn smell to it. I'm sure it is going to smell some but it seems too strong to me. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or whats going on?

what are you running in, tall grass can make it overheat, you really shouldnt smell anything burning. Is the battery hot? Are you letting the battery fully charge? a battery can get very hot if you over run it once it starts going dead.

In my short time owning the Redcat , it could be the ESC . Mine smelled hot and I smelled smoke then the ESC went out . So maybe that could be it ??

Iam running it just on the dirt and the battery is being charged for 6-8 hours each time on the standard charger.

If Ishouldn't really be smelling anything something is definetly wrong. Ijust ran it for the 4th time since taking it out of the box and the reverse is not working now. I am not very happy with Redcat right now. Will have to call them in the moring Iguess.

nope. it will plug in2 ur reciever & motor just lyk da stock esc.

worst u mite hav2 do is change battery connecter plug dependn on ur existing batterys plug. venom makes decent nimh & have universal plugs.
i got 8.4 5000mah nimh fer lyk 35$. or jus get traxxas batterys dat have da trx plug on em.

xl5 esc has the trx connectr

Cool thank you for the resonce. I just looked on ebay and there are some traxxas xl5 esc's with 12T 550 motors. Is that something that will work with mine and be better then what Ihave? If so would that just be a quick plug in as well? They are not much more then just the ESCon ebay so I figured if it is better then what Ihave and plugs right in then Imight as well get it as well.

THanks

da titan 12t motor isnt as good as da titan 21t.

more turns = evrything runs cooler. i.e. can b geared higher 4 more speed.

if i was in ur position, id get a new xl5 & run ur stock motor till it breaks. den drop in a 20$ titan 21t.1 of my titan 21t motors is about 8yrs old & still works. i smokd it last yeer. broke da can apart & trued da comm. & it still works 2day

but if u can get a good deal on a xl5 & 12t, den i gess it woodnt hurt, rite?

p.s. alll motors & brushd escs r plug & play, xcept 4 battery plugs

Traxxas run better than the redcat Esc/motor? are you crazy? it may run cooler, but traxxas esc's are complete and utter crap, same with their motors. Go do some research and see how many people hill them

Traxxas in general is crap. Castle creations make s a great setup for trucks like that. It's the Castle SV2 Brushless system. It's a great economy system and we put them in just about everything. It's programmable through the castle link system and the new series comes with 4 pole motors. The system ranges from $129 -$139 and you can run NIMH or up to a 3 cell lipo on the 4600 and 3300 systems.

There's no point in wasting money on more brushed stuff when the price of brushless systems has come down in price so low and the features you can unlock with the castle link far pass what everyone else offers.

Well I'm thinking Redcat is Crap as well!  Got an ESC at a local shop and ran the truck about 6 times.  Now I think the motor
is blown.  Looks like I will be in the market for a new motor now!  If I go with a brushless system will I have to change anything else?  I just want the stock remote control and want this damn thing to work!!!

Iwas just looking online for Brushless systems and being a newbie Ihave no idea what Ishould be looking at. What size motor would you suggest for the Redcat Volcano EPX. Ilive in the mountains and Iwant to get a decent speed 30-40 mph but still be able to climb the hills, nothing super steep, just be able to drive around here in the mountains.

u cood jus get a 21t titan brushed motor fer about 20$.

but if ur redy 2 go brushless, 4 ur aplication id recomend da castle creations sidewinder sct combo. bout 100$ shippd on ebay. or u can explain ur situation 2 ur lhs & mayb dey can refund ur brushd esc so u can get da sidewinder sct there.

Hey Xerxes- with the Castle Creations Sidewinder which combo should I get?  I have the stock Redcat Volcano and want to keep it pretty much stock besides the motor and esc.  Should I be looking at the 5700kv or the 4600kv, 3800kv???  I have no idea.  I am going to stick with the 7.2 nimh batteries.  I am not going to be racing, just driving around my home and I do live in the mountains.  I'm looking for for about 40 mph but still enough power to climb up some of the hills.  Which package should I be getting?

Default RE: Newbie with a Redcat Volcano EPX Buring smell????

no its plug in, calibrate, & go.

field card u can set it up how u want. punch control, brake force, battry setup, ect.
but da only thing ull hav 2 do, since ur goin nicad, is disable low voltage cutoff.

no card meens ull b listenin 2 beeps & led flashs. if u dont mind studyin da manual, & counting beeps & leds.

4 me, it was pure aggravation. so i got da card. but i also tweak brake, punch, timing so 4 me, a card is a ton easyr.
